Tony Blackburn Biography and Wiki:

Anthony Kenneth Blackburn is a well-known English disc jockey, musician, and television personality. He was born on January 29, 1943. Before he started working for the BBC on the BBC Light Programme, he gained his initial notoriety as a broadcaster in the 1960s while working for the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London. He was the first disc jockey to ever broadcast on BBC Radio 1. when it initially began operations on September 30, 1967, and he has worked for the corporation in multiple capacities over the course of his career. Additionally, he has had positions at Capital London and Classic Gold Digital, in addition to the ones he holds at the present time at BBC Radio 2, BBC Local Radio, and British Forces Broadcasting Service. In addition, he has also pursued a career in singing.

He was a member of a band known as Tony Blackburn and the Rovers, and at one point in time, Al Stewart was a part of it; together, they gave performances in Bournemouth and the places nearby. His singing career did not take off, despite the fact that he released three studio albums and 14 singles. Of those singles, two, “So Much Love” and “It’s Only Love,” made it into the UK Top 40 in the years 1968 and 1969 respectively. He once recounted that “So much Love” was plagued by a lack of copies because “the pressing facility went on strike, so nobody could get the record.” As a result, nobody could purchase the record. “I don’t think the strike had anything to do with the record, however it might have been… quality control or something,” he said. “It could have been…”  As time went on, he focused more on his profession in the radio industry and made less time for creating his own music; by the time the 1970s came to a close, he had completely given up singing.

In 1972, he issued an album under his own name under the RCA record label. “House of Cards,” which was written by Lynsey de Paul and Barry Green, and “Chop Chop,” which was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, were both released as singles. “Chop Chop” was written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. It was recorded in 1969 for his second album, Tony Blackburn, which was published on the Polydor label. His rendition of Doris Troy’s “I’ll Do Anything” was included on the album. Northern soul enthusiasts rediscovered this version of the Gamble and Huff song after it was pressed up as a white label. The song quickly became popular on the Northern soul scene’s dancefloors after its rediscovery. In June of 1978, a new version of the record was issued by Casino Classics under the alias Lenny Gamble. This alias was a combination of the names of the songwriters Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble.

Noel Edmonds is said to have caused Blackburn a great deal of annoyance when he disclosed the pseudonym on broadcast. Despite this, Blackburn and Edmonds ended up becoming very good friends. [source: missing citation] On the Cherry Red label, all of the Blackburn’s singles, including “I’ll Do Anything” and “House of Cards,” were made available for the first time in 2012 as part of a compilation album titled The Singles Collection 1965–1980. When Jimmy Young went to BBC Radio 2 in June 1973, he took up the mid-morning position that Young had been hosting. It was during this time that he debuted “The Golden Hour.” The feature was intended to be long-lasting, as seen by the fact that it was continued by Simon Bates, Simon Mayo, and Chris Moyles after they were given responsibility for that time slot.

Blackburn was a co-presenter of the BBC’s summer show Seaside Special for a number of years throughout the 1970s. During those years, he shared hosting duties with several well-known figures from BBC Radio, including Dave Lee Travis and David Hamilton. On August 16, 1975, he made his appearance singing “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” in front of a cage full of lions while accompanied by a lion tamer.  After taking over the weekday afternoon show in November 1977, he went on to host the Sunday Top 40 show on Radio 1 from September 1979 until December 1981. In the beginning of 1980, he replaced Ed Stewart as the host of the Junior Choice radio programme, which was broadcast on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. However, he continued to host the Sunday chart show all the way up until the end of 1981. Tommy Vance became his successor after he passed away. Blackburn continued to anchor Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast Broadcast until his last show on September 23, 1984, when BBC Radio 1 changed the name of the programme from Junior Choice to Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast Show. This change occurred in 1982.

In addition to hosting his show on BBC Radio 1 on the weekends, he joined BBC Radio London in 1981 and has since been hosting the afternoon show there throughout the week. It was in this setting that he demonstrated his admiration for soul music. “Soul music is filthy and sexually suggestive music. I didn’t want it to appeal to a small subset of people; rather, I wanted it to reach a wide variety of people. I wanted taxi drivers to listen to it because I think pop soul is great—really, I do—and I wanted them to hear it “, Simon Hattenstone was told by him. Tony Blackburn was the host of the radio programme “Soul Station” that was broadcast on BFBS from the middle to the late 1980s. “Tony Blackburn – The Human Dynamo” was one of the catchy jingles that stood out in people’s memories. Blackburn had a strained relationship with fellow DJ John Peel, who, as Blackburn recalled, once told him, “People don’t realize how much you’ve done for soul music,” to which Blackburn responded, “I bet you’d never say that publicly,” to which Peel replied, “Oh no!” Blackburn’s career as a DJ was marked by its ups and downs.

Tony Blackburn Phone Number, Email, Contact Information, House Address, and Social Profiles:

After 17 years of working at BBC Radio 1, he decided to leave the station and in 1984 he began doing the daily mid-morning show on BBC Radio London. He began his career at Capital London in 1988 and was involved in the launch of their Capital Gold London station. During his tenure at Capital London, he hosted various programmes, including the Breakfast show, Weekends, Drive time, and the Weekday evening show, during which he played music of his own choosing. He remained at Capital London until 2002. He hosted shows that were very similar to those on Real Radio Network and its successor, Smooth, as well as Jazz FM in Manchester.  In 1964, Tony became a disc jockey for the pirate radio station Radio Caroline. In contrast to the much more conventional manner of his colleagues, he presented himself in a way that was more casual and had an American flavour, and this helped him achieve popularity very quickly. After a stint on Radio London, which is where he made his reputation for good, Tony was appointed in 1967 as the first of a new generation of DJs for the BBC’s newly founded pop station, Radio One.

Radio One was broadcasting in the United Kingdom. His “Breakfast Show” programme quickly proved successful, guaranteeing that he quickly became a household celebrity (who can forget Arnold the dog! ), and it ran for ten years. He was the first DJ heard on the new station that was to revolutionize the face of British music. Also in 1967, Tony began a career as one of the regular presenters of the television programme “Top of the Pops,” which would last for a total of 17 years. Tony was not content with merely having a great career as a prominent DJ; in addition, he also had a career as a recording artist. Despite the fact that he was not the most talented vocalist, he managed to reach the lower regions of the UK charts on two separate occasions (“So Much Love” at number 31 in 1967 and “It’s Only Love” at number 42 in 1969). In addition, there were three song albums that were issued in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The final one of these was released on the RCA label, and it featured songs written by some of the best songwriters working at the time. These included “Chop Chop,” “Dusty,” and “Cindy” by Nicky Chinn & Mike Chapman, who are famous for writing hits for The Sweet, Mud, Suzi Quatro, and Smokie. It also featured one of a number of versions of “House of Cards” written by Lynsey.
