Tina Turner Bio Data :

Tina Turner was born to Zelma Priscilla and Floyd Richard Bullock in Tennessee, USA on 26 November 1939. Her dad was a supervisor of a group of shareholders. Turner was separated from her parents during World War II and had to live in Knoxville with her grandparents. She met her family in Knoxville after the war and attended the “Flagg Grove Elementary School.”

Turner had a song aptitude from an early age and used to sing in the church choir. Turner’s life got messy when her mother’s abusive dad ran away. When he remarried and left her and her sister, she was just thirteen. She went with her grandma to live and worked as a housekeeper.

While she was living with her grandma, she attended Carver High School. Her grandma died when Turner was 16 and she had to go live with her mother. She graduated from Missouri’s ‘Summer High School’ and dreamed of becoming a nurse. Turner had Raymond Craig, her first child when she was 18 in 1958. Her mother was agitated by a pregnancy out of wedlock and she threw her out of the house.

She went to live with Ike Turner, her future husband. In 1962, she married Ike and became a stepmother from his prior marriages to his sons. Ronald, the couple had a son together. The relationship, as Turner often recounted, was abusive in character, and in 1978 it was divorced. In 1986 Turner began dating German music manager Erwin Bach, whom she met for ‘Private Dancer.’ After 27 years of dating, the pair tied the marriage in July 2013.

Career

Turner used to visit St. Louis nightclubs. She met her future husband, Ike Turner, and his band ‘Kings of Rhythm,’ at ‘Club Manhattan.’ In 1958, Ike saw his skills and provided her opportunity to record with him as a background vocalist. In 1959, she recorded a dumb vocal for Ike’s song which was subsequently forwarded to ‘Sue Records’ president Juggy Murray.

Ike was paid a hefty amount for the rights to record and publish the song. Turner and Ike started singing together and in 1960 they gained second place in their record ‘A Fool in Love’ on the ‘Hot R&B Sides.’ Later on, they received their first Grammy Award nomination by ‘It’s Gonna Work Out Fine.’ The duet became popular and signed in 1964 with ‘Loma Records,’ an affiliate of ‘Warner Bros. Records.’

They performed live throughout the United States and on shows like ‘Hollywood A Go-Go.’ With the support of “United Artists Records” in 1978, Turner tried to restart her career with her cabaret-style performances in Vegas. She also began to show at shows such as ‘The Hollywood Squares,’ ‘Donny and Marie,’ etc. Her third album ‘Rough’ was published on the same record label in 1978.

The ‘Love Explosion’ was followed. Sadly, her fans were not impressed with their records and she decided not to renew her contract with the company. In 1980 Turner was highlighted in ‘The Ritz,’ New York, with her newly formed connection with Roger Davies. This provided her a chance to perform with Rod Stewart first on ‘Saturday Night Live and subsequently on his American tour.

In 1983 Turner released ‘Let’s Stay Together’ after signing with the ‘Capitol Records.’ The single was an enormous success in Europe and America. She signed the record on a three-album deal. In 1984 she released ‘Private Dancer,’ her comeback album is thought to be. Around 20 million copies were sold worldwide. The smash tune from ‘What’s Love Got to Do With’ album got her a Grammy prize. After her album’s success, Turner starred in 1985 in the movie ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.’

The film was a big hit and its performance was rewarded with the ‘NAACP Image Award’ for the ‘Excellent Actress.’ Another smash album, ‘Break Every Rule,’ was published in 1986, with 12 million copies sold to date. She wrote her autobiography ‘I, Tina’ in the same year, and she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She made history by performing in the ‘Maracana Stadium’ in Rio de Janeiro in 1988 with Paul McCartney.

The event has been included in ‘Guinness World Records.’ ‘Foreign Affairs’ was released the next year. Turned secured in 1993 the rights to make the film ‘What’s Love Got to Do It’ based on its relation with Ike. She also aided the female heroine with her clothing and taught her movements in dancing. In 1995 she cooperated with the band ‘U2’ to compose a song in the movie ‘Golden Eye’ of the ‘James Bond.’

After the success, ‘Wildest Dreams’ was released and gold and platinum were released in the USA and Europe accordingly. She appeared in 1999-2000 on the ‘VH-1’ special, ‘Divas Live ’99,’ then published ‘Twenty Four Seven.’ She undertook an album tour to assist her to obtain gold certification in the US. The tour totaled more than $100 million.

The ‘Kennedy Center Honors’ in 2005 recognized Turner and gave her tribute to many artists, including Oprah Winfrey, Melissa Etheridge, Queen Latifah, Beyonce, and Al Green that evening. She was also appreciated by President George W. Bush. In 2008, she performed at the Grammy Awards with Beyonce and was awarded a ‘Grammy’ for ‘River: The Joni Letters’ as an artist. She took her first tour in ten years, ‘Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour,’ that same year.

In 2018, she released a musical jukebox titled ‘TINA: The Tina Turner Musical,’ showing a microcosm of her life. It was published with the help of Phyllida Lloyd and ‘Stage Entertainment.’ It premiered in London under the leadership of Adrienne Warren.
