Aaron Dontez Yates, better known by his stage name Tech N9ne, was born on November 8, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri. His father, Carlton Cook, was a man of questionable morals who lived in Los Angeles and worked for the Los Angeles Police Department ,LAPD. He abandoned the family when Aaron was a child, but he continued to pay frequent visits to Kansas City. Yates himself suggested an other interpretation of his given name. Tech N9ne is a well-known American rapper, songwriter, and record producer who is also a record producer.
A strong Christian upbringing was provided by his mother, who came from a family of African-American descent. He also studied Islam with his Muslim stepfather and later searched for truth in other religions as well, before settling on Christianity. Rapping was something he did from an early age, and it was a type of music that was completely forbidden in his devout family, which forced him to leave home when he was seventeen years old.
