Sporting Kansas City Bio Data :

Known as Sporting Kansas City, the club is based in the Kansas City metropolitan region and competes in the Major League Soccer (MLS) as a professional soccer team. The team participates in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference, having moved back to the Western Conference in 2015 after spending ten seasons in the Eastern Conference. Sporting KC first appeared on the field in 1996 as a charter member of the league, which was then known as the Kansas City Wiz.

A year later, in 1995, Lamar Hunt created the squad. Since relocating across the state line, they have held the distinction of being the only major professional sports league franchise to have their home games in the state of Kansas. The Kansas City Wizards were the team’s official name for the bulk of its history as a professional basketball franchise.  Two Major League Soccer Cups (in 2000 and 2013), the Supporters’ Shield in 2000, and four U.S. Open Cups (in 2004, 2012, 2015, and 2017) have been won by the franchise.

Sporting Kansas City II, the club’s reserve team, competes in the USL Championship, the second-tier league in which the club competes. From 1996 through 2007, the Wizards played their home games at Arrowhead Stadium, which is best known as the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, an American football stadium in Kansas City. For the first ten years of the Wizards’ existence, the west end of Arrowhead Stadium was tarped off, reducing the amount of seating available near the field. When the game was played in 2006, supporters were able to sit all the way around the field; however, in 2007, seating was only accessible along the sidelines.

Following the conclusion of the Wizards’ final season at Arrowhead Stadium in 2007, the stadium was used for a number of significant events. It was necessary to play a regular-season home game versus the Los Angeles Galaxy in order to accommodate the enormous crowd expected for David Beckham’s Galaxy debut in 2008. In 2010, the Wizards hosted a friendly against the English team Manchester United, which they won 2–1 this time around.  Later, the agreement was extended to include the year 2010. With the addition of a new bleacher section financed by the Wizards, the stadium’s capacity has increased to 10,385.

The stadium is located across the state line in Kansas City, Kansas. As a result of this decision, the Wizards became the third Major League Soccer team to share their home stadium with a baseball team. Prior to the Washington Nationals’ transfer to Nationals Park, D.C. United had been sharing RFK Stadium with the Major League Baseball team, the Washington Nationals. During the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the San Jose Earthquakes played some of their home games at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, which is also the home of the Oakland A’s (and Oakland Raiders).

As part of huge mixed-use development, the Wizards had originally planned to relocate to Kansas City, Missouri, and construct a new stadium there – provisionally named Trails Stadium – to house the team. Despite the fact that the club had secured all necessary approvals and was awaiting site demolition, the Trails Stadium project was ultimately shelved due to the financial crisis of 2008–09. Prior to 2017, matches were televised in high definition on KMCI-TV (Kansas City International Television) (except for nationally broadcast matches). Nate Bukaty, the host of WHB 810AM’s ‘Border Patrol,’ provided play-by-play commentary for the game.

Bukaty began broadcasting for the team for the 2015 season. The former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum provided colour commentary following his retirement from professional soccer following the 2014 season. Jake Yadrich provided colour commentary for the entire 2013 season, following which he shifted to serving as the primary commentator on the sidelines during game broadcasts after that. The pregame and postgame shows were hosted by Kacie McDonnell, a morning reporter from KSHB-TV, an NBC affiliate and sister station to KMCI-TV. She also served as the network’s pregame and postgame host.

Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox Sports Midwest in the St. Louis market will now broadcast matches that were previously only available on television in the national broadcasting market. After only a few matches were broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest in 2017, the club stated that all matches would be broadcast in the St. Louis market, while most matches would be broadcast in the Mid-Missouri and Iowa markets, respectively. With the 2020 season approaching, Nate Bukaty will continue to give play-by-play commentary, while Jacob Peterson will take over as colour commentator, and Carter Augustine will serve as the sideline reporter, as previously announced.

Through an official relationship with Sports Radio 810 WHB and its station ESPN Kansas City 99.3FM, regular English-language local radio coverage is offered on a regular basis. In the past, Spanish broadcasting could be obtained on KDTD 1340AM, however, for the 2018 season, it will be found on KCZZ (ESPN Deportes Kansas City 1480AM). The broadcasts are produced by Jorge Moreno and feature the voice of Diego Gutierrez, who has been a part of the Major League Soccer for 13 years, as well as Ale Cabero, Raul Villegas, and Alonso Cadena.
