Roger Waters Biography and Wiki:
George Roger Waters is a well-known English musician, singer, songwriter, and composer. He was born on September 6, 1943 in England. Together with drummer Nick Mason, keyboardist Richard Wright, and guitarist, vocalist, and composer Syd Barrett, he co-founded the progressive rock band Pink Floyd in 1965. After the departure of Barrett in 1968, Waters assumed additional responsibilities within the band, including those of songwriter and creative leader in addition to his previous duties as bassist and co-lead vocalist. Following their initial breakthrough, Pink Floyd went on to acquire widespread acclaim with the concept albums The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut. As of 2013, they have sold more than 250 million albums around the world, including 74.5 million units sold in the United States alone. They had become one of the most critically acclaimed and best-selling acts in the history of popular music by the early 1980s. Waters quit the band in 1985 due to artistic differences with the other members of the band and immediately initiated a legal struggle with the other members over how they planned to exploit the band’s name and their previous work. They came to an agreement outside of court in 1987, and it took over eighteen years for him to perform with them once more after that.
The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, Radio K.A.O.S., and Amused to Death are the three studio albums that Roger Waters has released under his own name throughout his solo career. The Wall – Live in Berlin, which he produced in 1990 and had an official attendance of 200,000 people, is considered to be one of the largest and most lavish rock concerts in the history of the genre. As a former member of Pink Floyd, he was honoured with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the United States in the year 1996 and the Music Hall of Fame in the United Kingdom in the year 2005. In the same year, he published “a Ira,” an opera about the French Revolution that was divided into three acts and was based on a libretto written by Étienne and Nadine Roda-Gils. Later in same year, he got together with his former Pink Floyd bandmates, Mason, Wright, and David Gilmour, in order to perform at the Live 8 worldwide awareness event. This was the first time the band had performed with Waters since 1981.
Since 1999, he has performed widely as a solo act, and on his global tour that took place between 2006 and 2008, he performed The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. 2010 marked the beginning of him performing The Wall Live, and the following year, Gilmour and Mason joined him onstage in London for a performance of the double album. Since 2013, this tour has amassed the most revenue of any solo artist’s tour in the history of concert tours. The first of Waters’ four marriages was to his childhood sweetheart Judy Trim, which took place in 1969. The couple did not have any children together and divorced in 1975. The next year, he tied the knot with Lady Carolyne Christie, and the union resulted in the birth of two children: a son named Harry Waters, who is also a musician and has been touring with his father’s band since 2006, and a daughter named India Waters, who has been in the modelling industry. After getting a divorce from Christie and Waters in 1992, he went on to marry Priscilla Phillips the following year.
Before they split up in 2001, they were parents to one child together, a son named Jack Fletcher. Waters tied the knot with actress and filmmaker Laurie Darning in the year 2012. George Roger Waters was the younger of two sons born to Mary (née Whyte; 1913-2009) and Eric Fletcher Waters (1913-1944) on September 6, 1943 in Great Bookham, Surrey. His mother was the former and his father was the latter. His grandfather was a coal miner and Labour Party activist, while his father was a schoolteacher, a fervent Christian, and a member of the Communist Party. His father was the son of his grandfather. His father was a conscientious objector during the early years of the Second World War, and he served as a driver for an ambulance during the Blitz. Later in life, he abandoned his pacifist beliefs and enlisted in the British Army. He served as a lieutenant in the 8th Royal Fusiliers and was killed in Aprilia, Italy, on February 18, 1944, when Roger was just five months old. Aprilia is located between Anzio and Rome in Italy.

On February 19, 2014, Waters was appointed an honorary citizen of Anzio and also erected a memorial there that was dedicated to his father and other people who had died there during the war. After the passing of her husband, Mary Waters, who was also a schoolteacher, relocated to Cambridge with her two sons and brought them up in that city. The celebrations of Victory in Japan Day are Roger Waters’ earliest known recollection. Mary Waters passed away in the year 2009 at the age of 96. While Waters was in Cambridge attending the Morley Memorial Junior School and then the Cambridgeshire High School for Boys (now known as Hills Road Sixth Form College), Waters’ future musical partner, David Gilmour, lived nearby on the city’s Mill Road and went to the Perse School. Syd Barrett was also a student at the Cambridgeshire High School for Boys. When he was only 15 years old, Waters became the chairman of the Cambridge Youth Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (YCND). Waters also produced the promotional poster for the organisation and helped to organise it.
Despite the fact that he was an avid sportsman and a highly regarded member of the high school’s cricket and rugby teams, he did not enjoy his time spent in the classroom; according to Waters, he struggled to pay attention in class “I detested every single second of it, with the exception of the games. The school had a highly oppressive system in place, and the same students who were vulnerable to being bullied by their peers were also vulnerable to being bullied by the teachers.” [ When Waters was attending the Regent Street Polytechnic (which would later become the University of Westminster) school of architecture in London, he met future Pink Floyd founding members Nick Mason and Richard Wright. Waters had known Barrett and Gilmour since he was a child living in Cambridge. However, Waters had known them in Cambridge. In 1962, after a series of aptitude tests suggested that he would do well in that line of work, Waters enrolled at the institution in question. At the outset, he was thinking of pursuing a career in mechanical engineering.
Roger Waters Phone Number, Email, Contact Information, House Address, and Social Profiles:
By September 1963, Waters and Mason had lost interest in their studies; they had moved into the downstairs flat of Stanhope Gardens, which was owned by Mike Leonard, a part-time tutor at the Regent Street Polytechnic. Waters and Mason were living with Mike Leonard at the time. The first time that Waters, Mason, and Wright made music together was in the fall of 1963, when they were members of a band that was founded by vocalist Keith Noble and bassist Clive Metcalfe. They referred to themselves as Sigma 6 most of the time, but they also went by the name the Meggadeaths. Waters performed rhythm guitar, Mason played drums, Wright played on whichever keyboard he could arrange to use, and Noble’s sister Sheilagh offered an occasional vocal accompaniment. All of these musicians were members of the Noble family. In the early years of the band’s existence, they played at private events and rehearsed in a tearoom located in the basement of Regent Street Polytechnic.
After Metcalfe and Noble disbanded the band in September 1963 to start their own, the surviving members approached Barrett and guitar player Bob Klose with an invitation to join the band. By January 1964, the band had adopted the name the Abdabs, often also referred to as the Screaming Abdabs. The band was known as Leonard’s Lodgers, Spectrum Five, and eventually the Tea Set during the fall of 1964. All of these identities were utilized concurrently. The Tea Set changed their name to the Pink Floyd Sound in the fall of 1965, then to the Pink Floyd in the winter of 1965–1966, and finally to Pink Floyd in the early months of 1966. By the beginning of 1966, Syd Barrett had become the front-man, guitarist, and primary songwriter for Pink Floyd. He was solely responsible for or collaborated on the writing of all but one tune on their first full-length album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which was released in August of 1967. Waters contributed to the album with the song “Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk,” which is credited as his debut song with single writing credit.
