Rikishi Bio Data :

Solofa Fatu, Sr. (November 13, 1945 – October 4, 2020) and Elvera Ano’i Fatu (February 18, 1947 – April 25, 2008) had a son, Solofa Fatu, Jr. (October 11, 1965 – October 11, 2015). His maternal grandparents, both pastors, raised him in the Sunnydale Projects in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley district. He competed in wrestling while attending Balboa High School. In a 2021 interview, Fatu claimed that he had died for three minutes before he was taken to the hospital following a drive-by shooting in 1982. Anoa’i traveled out of state after being released from the hospital and began training as an MMA fighter with his mother’s brothers Afa and Sika.

Fatu is no stranger to the world of professional wrestling, having descended from the Anoa’i family. “Tonga Kid” Fatu is also a nickname for his older brothers, Sam and Eddie “Umaga.” Fatu also has uncles Sika and Afa Anoa’i who wrestled as Rosey and Roman Reigns, respectively, in addition to his cousin Rodney “Yokozuna” Anoa’i. Solofa Fatu Sr. died of COVID-19 on October 4, 2020. All three of these men’s names are now in use by the WWE: Joshua Samuel, Jonathan Solofa, and Joseph Solo Sikora, respectively. Fatu’s first wrestling employment was as a high-flying babyface for Gino Brito and Dino Bravo in Montreal’s Lutte Internationale wrestling promotion in 1985.

Some of the region’s most well-known faces frequently teamed up with him He and his cousin Samula Anoa’i became known as “The Samoan Swat Team” after joining the World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico (Samu & Fatu). The Wild Samoans used their “Samoan savage” performance, which included no shoes, public speaking, and no-selling attacks on the head, to depict themselves as “Samoan savages.” They won the new WWC Caribbean Tag Team Championships by defeating Invader I and Invader III on November 7, 1987 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. For a little over a month, Mark and Chris Youngblood held the championship, but they eventually quit the promotion.

Career

It was Buddy Roberts who hired them to go up against the Von Erichs and Fabulous Freebirds member Michael Hayes in his storyline. The SST upset hometown favorites Kerry and Kevin Von Erich on August 12th, 1988, to capture the WCWA World Tag Team Championship. They were positioned as a superpower. A name change didn’t stop their vicious gimmick from persisting after Samu and Fatu joined WCW. When Kokina Maximus entered the WWF under the guise of Yokozuna, his affiliation with The Headshrinkers was overlooked. Money Inc. defeated The Natural Disasters to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship with the help of the Headshrinker in their debut appearance. Following the battle with Natural Disasters and High Energy, The Headshrinkers returned.

Following his training at Funks, Fatu made his WWF Metal comeback as Rikishi Fatu on November 13, 1999. Sumo wrestlers in Japan are known as “Rikishi” or “Yokozuna,” respectively. Too Cool changed his surname to Fatu when they joined forces, therefore he no longer used the last name “Phatu.” Not a single reference of his WWF lineage was made. He had gained weight, bleached his hair white, and donned a mawashi (a Japanese style of hairstyle). When Rikishi ran over Stone Cold on Raw’s October 9 show, Commissioner Mick Foley used a Scotty 2 Hotty slip of the tongue to indict Rikishi.

It had been about a year since Rikishi made his WWF debut on the eve of the Survivor Series. It was to offer his cousin The Rock a chance at success, as Rikishi confessed, that “The Great White Hope” – Austin Aries – had always been pushed ahead of Samoan wrestlers like Peter Maivia, Jimmy Snuka, and The Rock, according to Rikishi. Rikishi moved away after swinging his leg around. On the September 13, 2007, episode of Impact!, Junior Fatu made his debut in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. On September 20th, Christian Cage defeated Fatu in his debut match due to A.J. Styles’ interference.

Christian and Styles, as well as Senshi and Daniels, were all but defeated by Fatu and Samoa Joe on Impact! on October 4. October 11’s Impact! saw Kurt Angle and Team 3D defeat Fatu and LAX in a six-man tag team match. At Bound for Glory, Eric Young was victorious in the Fight for the Right Reverse Battle Royal. Fatu was one of the contestants. Samoa Joe defeated Robert Roode in a Fight for the Right Tournament match when Roode intervened.

There were rumors that Fatu had been sacked from TNA as of October 30th due to a lack of agreement between him and TNA management on a raise for the wrestler. In the Fight for the Right semifinals, Chris Harris took Fatu’s spot. Rikishi and his family were in attendance for Yokozuna’s WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2012. His final appearance on Raw was as a commentator following his victory over Heath Slater on July 16, 2012. After losing both his brothers and cousins to cancer in the same calendar year, he used the Samoan Spike and Banzai Drop in his wrestling as honours.
