Ricky Gervais Biography and Wiki:

Ricky Dene Gervais was born on June 25th, 1961 in the city of Reading, which is located in England. His father, Lawrence Raymond Gervais, was of Franco-Ontarian descent and served in the Canadian military in England during the Second World War. He was stationed in England. In later years, he worked as a laborer and hod carrier to make a living. His mother, Eva Sophia House, was of English heritage and worked as a homemaker. Her maiden name was House. Ricky is the youngest of his parents’ four children; his older brothers and sister are Larry and Robert, and his older sister’s name is Marsha. Ricky was born as the youngest of his parents’ four children.

Ricky spent his childhood on a council estate in Whitney, which is located in Reading’s southern neighborhood. His family did not have a lot of money, yet they were content despite this fact. His mother, who was famous for her wit, was instrumental in making humour an important component of their family life, and the members of the family constantly made fun of one other. He was a child who spent a lot of time thinking about himself. When he was eight years old, one of his brothers questioned him about his faith in God by asking him why he believed in God. This, along with his mother’s response, caused him to reconsider his belief, and within an hour he had made the decision to become an atheist. This is a belief that he continues to maintain to this day.

First attending Whitney Infant School, he later transferred to Whitney Junior School to continue his education. He was given a microscope when he was maybe ten or eleven years old, demonstrating his significant interest in science during this time period. At the age of thirteen, his interest had grown to a greater intensity. He attended Ashmead Comprehensive School for his secondary school and received his diploma from that institution in the year 1979. After that, he got a job as a gardener at Reading University for a brief period of time. In 1980, he enrolled at University College London with the intention of majoring in biology. But very quickly, he came to the conclusion that if he pursued a degree in biology, he would have to go to school for a total of forty hours every week. On the other hand, if he studied philosophy, he would have to put in significantly less effort. Within a fortnight, he changed his focus to philosophy.

Ricky Gervais received an upper second-class honours degree in philosophy from University College London in 1983. He went on to study philosophy at University of London after completing his education there. Despite this, he was never able to complete his education there. Instead, he began his career in the events industry by taking a position as an assistant events manager at the University of London Union (ULU). In June of 1982, when Gervais was still a student at UCL, he and his good buddy Bill Macrae established a musical group that was named Seona Dancing. They collaborated on the composition of a number of songs, many of which were performed by Gervais with Macrae at the keyboard. In the end, they created a demo tape consisting of sixteen songs and were eventually signed by London Records.

Two of their songs, titled “More to Lose” and “Bitter Heart,” were released that year by London Records. Unfortunately, despite the fact that they were pushed, they were commercial failures, and as a result, the band disbanded in the year 1984. Up to the year 1996, Gervais continued to work for the University of London Union (ULU). Following that, in 1997, he became the chief of speech at a brand new radio station known as Xfm, where he also aired his own nightly programmes. While this was going on, he also started making regular contributions to Mary Ann Hobbs’ show that was broadcast on Radio 1. At the tail end of 1997, Gervais realized he required the assistance of another person. It was a strange turn of events, but Stephen Merchant’s resume was the first one that was given to him. He decided to invite Merchant in for an interview, and ultimately ended up employing Merchant as his assistant.

Gervais and Merchant were the hosts of a radio show that aired on Saturday afternoons from January 1998 to August 1998. In order to promote it, they developed special features such as “Song for the Ladies,” “Hip Hop Hooray,” and “Make Ricky Gervais Laugh.” However, although being televised from 4 to 6 in the afternoon, it was not able to draw in a particularly significant viewership. Because Xfm was acquired by the Capital Radio Group in August of 1998, Gervais’ job was rendered obsolete as a result. After some time, the two men parted ways with Xfm, and Merchant enrolled in a production course at the BBC. In order to fulfil the requirements of his degree, he produced a short film entitled “Seedy Boss” and recruited Gervais to play a role in it. During the same year, they worked together on the pilot episode of a comedy, which was presented by Channel 4’s Comedy Lab programme in September of that same year. It was about a manager who was going through a mid-life crisis and the title of the play was “Golden Years.” The pilot was unsuccessful in his attempts to attain more success.
