Real Salt Lake Bio Data :

Real Salt Lake, usually known as RSL, is a professional soccer franchise based in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area in the United States. It was founded in 1996. The team competes in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league. The RSL began competing in the league in 2005 as an expansion team. MLS expansion berths were awarded to the club’s inaugural owner and founder in 2004, which resulted in the team being established.

In addition to Rio Tinto Stadium, the club also plays its home games at Utah Royals FC’s Rio Tinto Stadium in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy, Utah. Rio Tinto Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium that the club shares with its sister team, the Utah Royals FC. Prior to relocating to Rio Tinto, RSL played its home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium, which is located on the campus of the University of Utah. From 2005 to 2007, RSL played its home games at Rio Tinto. Pablo Mastroeni is serving as the team’s interim head coach at the moment.

When it comes to domestic soccer, Real Salt Lake won the MLS Cup in 2009 and finished runners-up in the Supporters’ Shield that same year, as well as in the 2013 edition of the United States Open Cup. In addition, they finished as runners-up in the 2013 MLS Cup. Regional success for the franchise has so far been achieved in the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League, as RSL finished second in the tournament and made history by becoming the first American team to do so since the competition’s inception in 2008.

In 2019, their wholly-owned USL affiliate, the Real Monarchs, won the USL Championship, which was the second-tier title in American soccer. Real Salt Lake’s major adversary is believed to be the Colorado Rapids, with the two teams being the most geographically adjacent to one another and also battling for the Rocky Mountain Cup each year. After Salt Lake City’s induction into Major League Soccer in 2005, the competition was established, with the cup itself being awarded by a bipartisan committee of fans from each club, known as the “Committee of 10.”

Despite being trounced early on by the Rapids, Salt Lake has subsequently established a 9–4 series lead over their opponents and is the current champion, having won the cup during the 2017 season. Despite the fact that there is no annual trophy at stake, Sporting Kansas City has emerged as the more formidable opponent since 2011.

Sporting Kansas City was born out of a 2011 preseason brawl and ended in a brutal RSL defeat in the 2013 MLS Cup after a penalty shootout. Since then, the teams have routinely contended for supremacy at the top of the Western Conference, and even during Real Salt Lake’s rebuilding years, the teams have engaged in a number of tense encounters. From 2011 until the present, Real Salt Lake has a record of 10 victories, 6 draws, and 10 defeats in all competitions versus Sporting.

In addition, the squad maintains smaller, fan-driven rivalries with teams headquartered in Los Angeles as well as the Seattle Sounders FC. The latter is a result of their meeting in the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs as well as Seattle’s successful pursuit of Garth Lagerway, the general manager who assembled the roster for the team’s Golden Years, which ended up in Seattle in 2014. In 2019, Real Salt Lake has five fan groups: Salt City United, Rogue Cavaliers Brigade, Section 26, Riot Brigade, and La Barra, all of which are united under the banner of The Riot, a larger unified umbrella group that includes all of the fan groups.

Real Salt Lake’s mascot, Leo the Lion, is the team’s official mascot. In 2011, Branden Steineckert, drummer of the punk band Rancid and a supporter of Real Salt Lake, wrote the song “Believe” in celebration of the club, which was released in 2011. The song, which was first released on YouTube, has subsequently been accepted as the team’s official anthem, with the song being sung before the start of every home game, at the end of every home game if the outcome is a win, and after every goal scored by RSL since its inception.

The woohoo yahoo lyrics from Gwen Stefani’s song The Sweet Escape were played before the national anthem. The Sinclair Broadcast Group has the television rights to Real Salt Lake games that are not aired by the league’s national television partners as of the 2015 season, according to the league’s website. It is possible to see pre-and post-game coverage on the telecasts (which, before their cancellation, were formerly aired by Sinclair’s American Sports Network).

The team’s main station is Sinclair’s KMYU in Utah, and telecasts are syndicated to other Sinclair-owned stations in the region, as well as non-Sinclair stations in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Tucson, among other cities. While the team’s television contract with Sinclair was extended, the team also announced a streaming partnership with KSL-TV, which allows it to provide in-market streaming of RSL’s regional broadcasts, as well as matches involving the Utah Royals FC (NWSL) and the Real Monarchs (USL), on digital platforms. It was announced in 2020 that the team’s television contract with Sinclair would be extended through 2022.
