A native of the United States, Priscilla Renea Hairston (born Priscilla Renea Hamilton; September 14, 1988), better known by her stage name Muni Long (which is pronounced “money long”), is a singer and composer. In 2009, Priscilla Renea debuted as a solo artist with her first studio album, titled Jukebox, which was distributed by Capitol Records. She then spent the next decade co-writing songs for other recording artists, some of which include the singles “California King Bed” by Rihanna, “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony, “Love So Soft” by Kelly Clarkson, “Imagine” by Ariana Grande, and “Timber” by Pitbull featuring Kesha, which topped the charts worldwide. In her second studio album, Coloured (2018), which was released through Thirty Tigers and Sony Music, Hamilton explored the Americana and country soul music genres. Her return to her career as a solo artist coincided with the release of the record.
She began performing under the stage name Muni Long[4, and after achieving major commercial success as an independent artist with the single “Hrs and Hrs,” which peaked within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, she signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. [She] is currently working on her second studio album. Because to her contributions to H.E.R.’s album Back of My Mind (2021), she has also been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Album of the Year. Born Priscilla Renea in rural Vero Beach, Florida in 1988. Her father served in the Navy, and she did as well. She has indicated that she started singing when she was two years old, but she did not feel comfortable singing in front of people until she was much older. She eventually found YouTube and started uploading videos of herself singing in her room when she discovered it. Her debut video was a cover of “Cry Me a River,” which she entered into a competition in which the winner would perform with Justin Timberlake at the Grammy Awards; however, she was not selected as the winner of the competition. She wrote her own songs on her own and shot videos of herself singing the dictionary.
She also did it independently. Her channel ultimately garnered more than 30,000 subscribers, which earned her a spot on MTV’s Say What? Karaoke and provided her with the opportunity to perform. Long secured a recording contract with Capitol Records in 2009, when she was 21 years old, under her birth name. Her popularity had been growing on YouTube. Her debut album was supposed to be released on October 20, 2009, but the release date was pushed back so that she could record more songs. The single “Dollhouse” was initially issued on August 18, 2009, and it was the first taste of what was to come with the album. The single did not make it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it did get as high as number eleven on the Heatseekers singles chart, and it was considered a moderate hit on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The album, Jukebox, was made available for purchase on December 1st, 2009. The album only sold 1,200 copies in its first week of release, which was not enough to place it on the Billboard 200 chart. On the other hand, it did manage to climb all the way up to position number twenty-three on the Billboard Heatseekers album chart, where it remained for a whole week. The album received positive reviews from music critics, despite its lack of success in the commercial market.
Billboard praised her “knack for blending prose and poetry with great beats,” which the publication noted as one of her strengths. The second and final single, titled “Lovesick,” was released on March 2, 2010, although it was unsuccessful in reaching the top of the charts. Long began his career in the music industry by penning songs for other recording artists. She contributed to the writing of “Promise This,” which became the number-one hit in the United Kingdom in 2010, as well as “California King Bed,” a song that appeared on Rihanna’s fifth studio album, Loud, which was released in November of that same year. In the latter half of 2011, she was a participant in the ASCAP retreat, which was a songwriting event held in France and sponsored by the Cain Foundation, Gibson, and Sennheiser. She continued her career as a songwriter, earning credits on albums released in 2011 and 2012 by Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Madonna, Mika, Selena Gomez & The Scene, Chris Brown, and Little Mix, among other artists.
Long had an appearance on the song “John Doe” by B.o.B., which was released in 2013 as part of the artist’s album Underground Luxury. In addition, she made a contribution to Fifth Harmony’s debut album Reflection in 2014 by co-writing the song “Worth It,” which was the third single released from the album. The song ended up reaching number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Long is credited with co-writing the smash hit duet “Somethin’ Bad” that was recorded by Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert in 2014. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award and topped the Billboard Country Chart. After some time, “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett was replaced with this song as the opening theme for NBC Sports’ coverage of the National Football League. The music was picked by NBC Sports. Carrie Underwood, who originally collaborated with Miranda Lambert to create the song, sang the reimagined version of “Somethin’ Bad” that was renamed “Oh, Sunday Night” for the purpose of the show.
On the tune “Be Right There” that was released in 2015 by Diplo and Sleepy Tom, Long was featured as a vocalist. On the Friday night show that Annie Mac hosts on BBC Radio 1, the single was dubbed “the hottest record in the world.” The song “Don’t Walk Away” by Jade, which was released in 1992, provided the inspiration for the lyrics to “Be Right There.” On the song “Black Moses,” which was released in 2016, Long worked with Pusha T and Meek Mill. The song was included on the record that served as the soundtrack for The Birth of a Nation. Long had a guest appearance on Train’s song “Loverman,” which was released in 2017 as part of the band’s album A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat. The songs “Gentle Hands” and “Heavenly,” Long’s first two singles off her then-upcoming album Coloured, were both made available for digital download on April 6, 2018, by the artist. Paper Magazine was the venue for the first appearance of the music videos accompanying both singles online.

In the same year, she was also given credit for co-writing two songs that were included on Ariana Grande’s album Positions. These songs were “Just like Magic” and “Six Thirty.”
Long released her single named “Build a Bae” with rapper Yung Bleu in December 2020. This was her fourth single release since October and it explained that Muni Long is the “protector of Priscilla.” Prior to that, on November 13, she issued her first extended play (EP), titled Black Like This, which is a celebration of blackness and was released under the imprint of the label that she co-founded, Supergiant Records. After this, in July of 2021, Nobody Knows, a seven-track extended play, was released. She released an extended play (EP) with eight tracks named Public Displays of Affection in November of 2021. Long provided the following explanation in regard to the title: “I put a lot of effort into writing the music, and there were occasions when I found myself crying in the studio. I’m not the kind of person that gets very emotional easily. Because of this, I consider putting all of my sentiments into this effort to be a form of “public exhibition of affection” on my part “.
Vibe selected the extended play (EP) as the 19th best R&B album of 2021 and used the word “intimate” to describe it. Long also made a music video for the track “Hrs and Hrs” off the EP. The song is called “Details What She Can Do for Hours Upon Hours with Her Partner,” and it is featured on the EP. The song “Time Machine” began to gain widespread attention on TikTok in the month of January 2022. Long inked a contract with the recording company Def Jam Recordings in March of 2022. According to Vogue, Renea’s new single “Muni Long” portrays her “new powerful, gorgeous self through fashion” in addition to her music. With the assistance of famous stylist Jason Rembert, Renea created a new “fashion identity” for the single. She made this statement when talking about the idea of being a Black role model: “how you’re introduced to someone is the way they will remember you, unless you are reintroduced,” and she followed it up by saying, “I’m in the process of reintroducing myself.”

The extended play (EP) titled Public Displays of Affection Too was published by Long on July 1, 2022. It was preceded by the release of the songs titled “Pain,” “Another,” and “Baby Boo,” the latter of which was a collaboration with the rapper Saweetie. The album was scheduled to be released on September 23, 2022. Every song that was released on her first two EPs (with the exception of “Just Beginning”) will be included on the eighteen-track collection, in addition to six brand new tracks. Since leaving Florida, Long has established residence first in Atlanta, and then later in Los Angeles. It has been determined that she suffers from lupus. She has cited personal experiences as creative triggers for her art, including personal bankruptcy, litigation, fights with past management, and the “whirlwind of being dismissed, re-signed, then dropped again from a label.” She is the owner and operator of her own record label known as Supergiant Records, which gets its name from the phrase “the greatest star in the galaxy.”
The country-soul sound of Priscilla Renea’s brand-new album, Coloured, sees the singer and chart-topping songwriter going full circle in some respects. Coloured is Priscilla Renea’s next game-changing album. Renea, whose father was in the Navy and whose family moved frequently as she was growing up, eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was eight years old when she composed her first song. She remembers, “I was sweeping the hallway and started singing this melody and lyrics,” and she laughs now when she thinks about it. It was a country song, and the lyrics went something like this: ‘Walking along the highway, looking at the skyway.’ Renea says that “pretty much every song I’ve ever written is a country song in some way,” going on to cite her co-writes on such hits as Rihanna’s “California King Bed,” Pitbull’s No. 1 smash “Timber,” and “Somethin’ Bad,” her Country No. 1 for Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood as examples. “Pretty much every song I’ve ever written is a country song in some way,” It’s interesting because now that I’m being myself and creating songs about my youth, they naturally have this gloomy, swampy, country-western sound to them. That was not anything I intended to do. That’s just how I was raised after spending my formative years in the South.
Renea has spent the better part of the past decade working as a hired songwriter, but Coloured represents her return to concentrating on her own work as an artist. Her list of credits reads like a who’s who of superstar musicians and includes hits for artists such as Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Demi Lovato, Pitbull, Miranda Lambert, Chris Brown, Fifth Harmony, Mariah Carey, Charlie Puth, Nick Jonas, Train, Diplo, Curren$y, and Kelly Clarkson, among many others. Her credits read like a who’s who of superstar musicians. This is a list that exemplifies not just the chameleon-like range of her technical abilities, but also the emotional intelligence that enables her to connect with artists whose personalities are vastly different and assist them in sounding genuine. She states, “I never stopped wanting to compose my own music.” [Citation needed] “Writing songs for other people was a bit of a bittersweet experience for me, since I genuinely feel like I’m a tree that’s loaded with delicious fruit,” the songwriter said. And because of the industry I worked in, not only did I have to provide for my own food and water needs, but I also had to endure some truly awful working conditions while other people came and stole my produce without asking. Now, I want to be able to share my talent with other people in a way that won’t do any harm to me personally. I started creating the songs that would eventually become Colored as a method to keep my interest in music alive.
