Pele is a legendate sportsman and an iconic footballer who has played so often as the ‘King of Football’ during his playing years. Pele was born to Dondinho and Dona Celeste Arantes as Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He’s been the couple’s first child. He’s got a younger brother. His dad was a footballer. In 1966 he married Rosemeri dos Reis Cholbi for the first time. The two daughters were blessed. In 1982 they divorced. He worked closely with Xuxa from 1981 to 1986, and helped him to be a model. Career

Football legend De Brito took Pele, convinced of the incredible skill that he had, to Santos, where he belonged to the Santos FC professional team. In June 1956 Pele signed a contract and in September played his first professional game. In the game, he scored against Corinthians Santo Andre his first professional goal. He was regularly placed in the lineup in early 1957, and became the top league scorer. He won a position in the National Team of Brazil with his exceptional performance.

In July 1957, he played against Argentina his first international game. While Brazil lost 2-1, he won his first international goal and thereby became the youngest player in the world. He not only helped Santos secure a win in Brazil’s top-flight football team Campeonato Paulista with 58 goals, which is unrivalled till now, but he also belonged to Brazil’s World Cup winner team. In the 1958 World Cup, he smashed several records.


His dream of triumph came to an end soon after Santos couldn’t keep its title in 1959; in 1960 he kept on performing extraordinarily well on the field, allowing Santos to regain its crown. The Taça Brasil was won by the club as its highest scorer. Santos played Copa Libertadores, the first club football tournament in South America. In 1962, Santos was the best year in his career, not only leading him to an exciting victory in the Copa Libertadores competition but helping the team to win at Brasiliero Championship, Taça Brasil, and the Intercontinental Cup in 1962.

For the 1962 World Cup, the injury was better than it did, despite considerable excitement and hoopla, as it remained for most of the event. In 1963, Santos reproduced last year’s performance as the Copa Libertadores’ victorious champion. Although the team couldn’t recover the Paulista title, it won the Rio-São Paulo, the Intercontinental Cup and Taça Brasil. The club’s steep journey upward recovered and thus its contribution to the club after the successes recorded in 1964 and 1965.

Though for three consecutive years, the club won Paulista trophy, Pele was never a key contributor to the cuisine. Pele was hurt by the 1966 World Cup because the Bulgarians continued to foul himself. The result was Brazil’s departure from the first round of the World Cup. He scored his thousandth goal in the 1969 penalty kick against Vasco da Gama at the Maracana Stadium. The World Cup of 1970 was Pele’s final World Cup. He played in all qualification matches and contributed to the tournament in 14 of Brazil’s 19 goals.

For its amazing achievement and its vast contribution, Brazil won the World Cup and Pele was chosen ‘Tournament Player.’ On 18 July 1971 in Rio de Janeiro, Pele’s last international match against Yugoslavia. For his years as a club, he played for Santos in the 1974 season before he retired. By accepting a contract with New York Cosmos, he came out of semi-retirement in 1976. In his last season with the club, he guided the club to the 1977 NASL championship. Officially his last meeting between Cosmos and Santos was on October 1, 1977.

He played Cosmos in the first half and Santos in the second half. His final official objective was to fight Santos directly in the first half. The match was won by Cosmos, 2-1. In 1992 he was appointed UN Ambassador for Environment and Ecology for the very successful career of football. He was named Goodwill Ambassador to UNESCO in 1995.
