Orlando City SC Bio Data :

Orlando City Soccer Team is an American professional soccer club based in Orlando, Florida, that is a member of Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference. The club plays its home games at Amway Center (MLS). Orlando City SC became the 21st franchise in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015, taking over from the USL Pro team of the same name. As a result, they became the first Major League Soccer team to play in Florida since the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny both collapsed after the 2001 season.

The team’s home stadium is Exploria Stadium, which is located in Downtown Orlando. Prior to the completion of Orlando City’s soccer-specific stadium, the Lions played their first two seasons in Major League Soccer at the Citrus Bowl, which the team had also purchased and renovated with its own funds. Orlando City’s “fill the bowl” campaign in the 2015 and 2016 seasons resulted in sell-out crowds of more than 60,000 for the club’s home openers in both seasons. During their time at the stadium, Orlando City averaged more than 30,000 fans per game.

In May 2019, the team announced plans to consolidate all of Orlando City’s development pyramid into a single shared facility at Osceola Heritage Park, creating a 20-acre (8.1 hectares) training complex that will house the senior MLS squad, the Orlando City B team, and the Development Academy.  It was transformed into a soccer-specific stadium, and it now serves as the home stadium for Osceola County Basketball (OCB). After being appointed as executive vice president of soccer operations in December 2018, Luiz Muzzi spelled out his vision for the organization’s internal pipeline, which included both young and professional soccer players and coaches.

The facility was officially inaugurated on January 17, 2020, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Earlier this year, the logo for Orlando City’s expansion squad was unveiled. The basic elements of the design, such as the purple color scheme and lion ident, were carried over from the identity of the United Soccer League Pro squad. New features and changes were implemented to signify the franchise’s move from a second-division squad to a first-division team.

An image of a gold Lion’s face with 21 sun flares forming its mane is displayed within a purple shield in the logo. Its position as the twenty-first team in Major League Soccer is represented by the number of flares on the club’s uniform, and its sun-shaped mane is a nod to Florida’s moniker as “The Sunshine State.” The name of the team can also be seen in white on the crest. Since the team’s establishment as a United Soccer League (USL) franchise in 2010, Orlando Health has served as the official shirt sponsor of Orlando City SC.

As part of the extension, Orlando Health became the first jersey partner in MLS history to commit to an expansion team before the club’s acceptance into the league. The club’s affiliation with Orlando Health was formalized in 2013. Adidas has also agreed to supply the club’s uniforms for the 2015 season as part of a league-wide agreement with Major League Soccer.

As a result of the agreement, there will no longer be any third kits, and only one kit (alternating between the home and away kits) will be authorized to change per season, with the kits rotating on a yearly basis. In March 2015, the club sold almost 13,000 season tickets before playing its first match, and it went on to sell all 14,000 season tickets that were still available later that month.

With a season ticket base of 18000 people in place as of the 2017 season, Orlando City has reached its maximum capacity. On March 8, 2015, 62,510 fans turned out for Orlando City’s home opener against New York City FC, setting a new record for an expansion team. The club finished the season with the second-highest average attendance figures in the league, trailing only Seattle Sounders FC, and once again set a new record for an expansion team in attendance.

The Ruckus and The Iron Lion Firm are the club’s two most active supporters groups, which combine their efforts on game days to form “The Wall,” which is presently located in the safe standing section of the stadium: The Ruckus and The Iron Lion Firm. The Ruckus is the oldest of these groups, having been started in 2010.

It was originally formed in 2009 as the “Orlando Soccer Supporters Club,” which was not affiliated with any specific soccer team at the time of formation.  A rift developed between the Iron Lion Firm and The Ruckus prior to the commencement of the City’s inaugural season. The club also has officially recognized international fan clubs in Brazil and the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other countries.
