Mo’Nique Bio Data:

Comedian and actress Mo’Nique was born Monique Angela Hicks (née Imes) on December 11, 1967 in the United States. She is better known by her stage name, Mo’Nique. She first rose to prominence thanks to her membership in the Queens of Comedy and her performance as Nicole “Nikki” Parker in the television series The Parkers, which aired on the UPN network. She also became known for her work as a stand-up comedian, hosting shows at a number of different venues, including Showtime at the Apollo. Mo’Nique began her career in the film industry by playing roles in movies like “Phat Girlz” (2006) and “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins” (2008). She, along with a number of other female comedians, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Comedy Album in the year 2002. When Mo’Nique performed stand-up comedy for the first time, in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, she was met with a standing ovation from the audience.  This experience gave her the confidence to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. After appearing in a number of stand-up shows, she made a significant step forward by landing one of the leading roles in The Parkers (1999). Mo’Nique continued to make appearances on television even though she was working in the film industry.

Mo’Nique Relationship

Her role as Precious in the 2009 independent film won Mo’Nique the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and over 30 other major awards for best acting, including the most prestigious ones such as the Golden Globe, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, the New York Film Critics Circle Award, the Chicago Film Critics Association Award, the Independent Spirit Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Mo’Nique was the fourth and final child in a family of four, all of whom were raised in the county of Baltimore. She first performed on stage in 1988 at a comedy club during an open-microphone night after receiving encouragement to do so from her brother. She began performing professionally at other comedy clubs in Baltimore, Atlanta, and along the East Coast after being encouraged by the success of her impromptu performance. She eventually quit her job as a customer service representative for a telecommunications company in order to pursue stand-up comedy as a full-time career. Before long, she was headlining for musicians and making appearances on television specials such as Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam and Comic View. As Mary, the obese Mo’Nique prowls the screen, belittling and assaulting Precious, her teenage daughter who is HIV-positive and pregnant with a second child by her own father. Precious is carrying the child of her own father. Mo’Nique’s ability to evoke the ignorance and desperation that lay behind her character’s inhuman actions garnered a lot of praise from the reviewers.

Mo’Nique Career

In 1999 and 2000, Mo’Nique starred in a number of successful guest appearances on the television show Moesha, which led to the development of a spin-off series based on her character. She played the role of an upbeat single mother on the sitcom The Parkers (1999–2004), in which she had a starring role for a total of five seasons (1999–2004). Film roles soon followed, despite the fact that the movies were of varying quality. These movies ranged from Baby Boy (2001), which was about life in inner-city Los Angeles, to Soul Plane (2004), which was a widely reviled parody of Airplane! (1980) that features stereotypical depictions of African Americans. Mo’Nique continued her stand-up comedy career in addition to her acting career, most notably by participating in the Queens of Comedy tour in the year 2000. Mo’Nique first came to public attention as an actress in the dramatic role of a drug addict in the film Shadowboxer (2005), in which she appeared. After that, she provided her voice for the film Farce of the Penguins (2006), which was a crude parody of the nature documentary The March of the Penguins (2005), and she starred in the romantic comedy Phat Girlz (2006). Her performance as the violent and sexually abusive Mary in Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire (2009), which was directed by the same man who directed Shadowboxer, earned her additional critical praise.
