Minnesota Wild Bio Data :

The St. Paul Saints are a professional ice hockey team based in St. Paul, Minnesota, that competes in the National Hockey League’s Western Conference. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Wild is a member of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Minnesota Wild and the Columbus Blue Jackets, both of whom were new to the NHL at the time, were among the first teams to join the league in 2000.

Following a pair of disappointing seasons in which the Wild finished last in their division, Minnesota finally made it to the postseason in their third season, thanks in part to the abilities of right-wing Marian Gaborik. In the first round of the postseason, the Minnesota Wild narrowly avoided elimination by winning three consecutive games by a single goal margin in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche (with the latter two coming in overtime contests).

After winning another seven-game series, the Wild advanced to the conference finals, where they were upset by the Anaheim Ducks. After an unexpected run to the Stanley Cup Finals, Minnesota was relegated to a pair of last-place divisional finishes in the American Hockey League following its playoff success.

It was in 2006–07 that the Wild earned their second postseason berth, and they went on to win the division title the following season. However, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round in both of those seasons. In spite of having won at least one game in each of the next three seasons, the team was unable to qualify for the postseason throughout that time span.

Despite making a postseason appearance for the first time since 2009–10, the Minnesota Wild were eliminated in round one by the Chicago Blackhawks. For the Wild, it marked the beginning of an unparalleled streak of six straight postseason berths, despite the fact that the team never advanced past the second round during that time. It was previously owned by a limited partnership founded in 1997 by former majority owner Bob Naegele, Jr. of Naegele Sports, LLC, who later sold his interest in the company to a third party.

In a press conference on January 10, 2008, it was revealed that the franchise would be sold to Craig Leipold, a previous owner of the Nashville Predators. MSE is a Minnesota-based sports and entertainment company that was purchased by Leipold on April 10, 2008, with the approval of the NHL’s Board of Governors. A resident of Racine, Wisconsin, Leipold concluded the sale of the Nashville Predators to a local ownership group on December 7, 2007, marking the first time that a team he has owned since the expansion franchise was awarded to the city in 1997 was sold.

Leipold is the majority shareholder and principal investor in MSE, a regional sports and entertainment company that owns the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, its AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League, Wildside Caterers, 317 on Rice Park, and the facility management of Xcel Energy Center and the Saint Paul RiverCentre, among other businesses. He also represents the team as a Governor at meetings of the NHL’s Board of Governors.

Following the purchase of MSE, Mr. Leipold sold the Swarm to John Arlotta for a sum of money. It also has year-round management rights to the Xcel Energy Center and currently has a management contract to oversee the neighboring Saint Paul RiverCentre and Roy Wilkins Auditorium, which are both owned by the Wild and managed jointly with them. In addition, the group owns and operates 317 on Rice Park, which was once known as the Historic Minnesota Club.

The Minnesota Wild is actively involved in the community through the philanthropic efforts of the Minnesota Wild Foundation as well as through its operations to support the game of hockey through events such as Hockey Day Minnesota and the Minnesota Wild Community Challenge. Since 2007, it has been observed on the same day every year. The Wild are 11-2-1 on Hockey Day Minnesota, with the win over the Minnesota Wild.

The Wild introduced a new tradition in 2017 called This Is Our Ice, which encourages Wild supporters to bring water from local ponds, lakes, and rinks and pour it on the ice at the Xcel Energy Center. The tradition began in 2017 and continues today. Fans are encouraged to bring water to any regular-season home game and place it in the collection station, which will then be added to the ice for the remainder of the regular season.
