Minnesota United FC Bio Data :

The team debuted in 2017 as the 22nd member of the league, taking over the moniker of the former North American Soccer League (NASL) team of the same name. For its first two seasons in Major League Soccer, the team’s home games were held at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus. Allianz Field, in the Midway neighbourhood of Saint Paul, became the city’s fourth professional sports franchise in the spring of 2019, joining the Minnesota Wild, the St. Paul Saints, and the Minnesota Whitecaps.

Bill McGuire, the former CEO of UnitedHealth Group, is in charge of the ownership of Minnesota United FC, which includes the Pohlad family, the owners of the Twins; Glen Taylor, the former owner of the Timberwolves; and Wendy Carlson Nelson, the daughter of former Wild investor Glen Nelson.  Red is the team’s accent colour, and the team’s colours are grey, sky blue, and black. The Mississippi River is symbolised by the blue line on the emblem. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul can be found on each side of the blue.

The Iron Range in Minnesota is represented by the shade of grey. The state motto, L’Etoile du Nord, inspired the rising crest and the North Star. The mascot of Minnesota United is PK, a loon. Since mid-2014, PK has served as the club’s mascot. The Dark Clouds and True North Elite are Minnesota United FC’s two most prominent fan organisations, while the umbrella organisation “MNWonderwall” also includes the Red Loons and the Dark Glitterati. It was in early 2019 when Wonderwall launched “THUNDERBALL,” a permanent Allianz Field-based drumline that serves as the sounding board for shouts in the Wonderwall sector.

Wonderwall” is the anthem of Minnesota United supporters after every home win. An 18,500-seat, outdoor soccer-specific stadium at the Minneapolis Farmers Market in downtown Minneapolis has been proposed by the city’s mayor, John McGuire. It wasn’t clear when the stadium design would be finalised, but the league stated it was working on a proposal before July 1, 2015, the deadline set by the league for the club’s start. However, Governor Mark Dayton said he would not block auxiliary funding for improvements to the state’s infrastructure.

Ownership revealed a $250 million budget for the stadium in an April 2015 presentation: $100 million for MLS expansion fees, $30 million for property acquisition, and $120 million for construction. It was a meeting of the minds between the proprietors and the state’s political leaders. The group asked the legislators for a tax exemption on construction materials of up to $3 million, as well as reductions or restrictions on city and county property taxes for the stadium site. Around $50 million could be saved in taxes as a result of this programme.

Because Minnesota United’s stadium would be privately owned, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges objected to a sales and property tax exemption that had previously been granted to several other stadium projects in the city. While this vote was described as “mostly symbolic,” the Minnesota Senate voted 61–4 the next week to prevent any state funding or tax expenditures from being used for the stadium, which McGuire had not requested. Afterwards, McGuire stated that he would be open to handing over the land to Minneapolis, Hennepin County, or another public organisation if it would allow for property tax exemption to be granted.

Because St. Paul’s interest and the deadline passed without a stadium deal, it was decided to go with McGuire’s group, although league deputy commissioner Mark Abbott stated Minnesota was still being examined for expansion. Mayor Chris Coleman spoke to Abbott about developing on city-owned vacant land that once housed the Metro Transit bus barn near Interstate 94 later in the month. The team’s agreement to purchase industrial land near the Farmer’s Market with an exclusive right to do so terminated on August 31, 2015, with no public word concerning an extension.

If private funds are used to design and build a stadium on the St. Paul bus barn site in Ramsey County, Minnesota, on September 8, 2015, Ramsey County Board of Commissioners issued a non-binding resolution in support of the stadium’s development. A stadium for Minnesota United was announced for the 35-acre St. Paul Bus Barn site on Oct. 23, 2015.

The new stadium, which will be privately funded, will have a capacity of about 20,000 people. Designing the stadium was a priority when Minnesota United FC hired Populous on November 25, 2015. It was announced on December 9, 2015, that Mortenson Construction and Populous had been engaged as part of the stadium’s construction. By 2018, the team intends to build a 21,500-seat soccer-specific stadium that will be privately financed and built by the team.

As of July 25, 2017, Allianz Field had been renamed and will open in March 2019. TCF Bank Stadium hosted its first MLS match on March 12, 2017, between Minnesota United FC and Atlanta United FC. At TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 19, 2016, it was announced that Minnesota United would be playing in the 2017 MLS season. The team had been using the stadium as a temporary home during the construction of their soccer-specific stadium from 2017 to 2018.
