Minnesota Timberwolves Bio Data :

Minneapolis-based Minnesota Timberwolves are a professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA). They are based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they are a member of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA) . It was in 1989 that the Minnesota Timberwolves were established as an expansion franchise in the Eastern Conference, with the Orlando Magic, who were also newly constituted at the time. As could be expected of a newly founded team, the “T-Wolves” struggled in their first seven seasons in the league, winning no more than 29 games in each of their first seven seasons in the league.

When Kevin McHale served as the Timberwolves’ vice president of basketball operations from 1995 to 1997, he was representing his home state and former Boston Celtics player who grew up in the Twin Cities area. Among those chosen that year was Kevin Garnett, a young forward fresh out of high school who played forward. After only a few seasons with the team, Garnett established himself as its most important player, leading it to its first-ever postseason appearance (1996–97) and first-ever winning season (1997–98).

Despite the fact that Garnett was instrumental in the team’s turnaround, he was unable to advance the team beyond the first round of playoff play in each of Minnesota’s first seven postseason appearances, which happened from the 2001–02 season through the 2002–03 season. Just prior to the start of the 2003–04 season, the Timberwolves signed experienced guards Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell to their already-impressive starting lineup, further reinforcing an already-impressive group. In the wake of this success, the team won its first division title as well as its first postseason series, advancing to the Western Conference finals before being ousted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals.

Basketball, the only major sport to have its origins in the United States, has grown in recent years into a global phenomenon of epic proportions, becoming the most watched sport on the planet. During the 2004–05 season, the Minnesota Timberwolves failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in eight years, marking the first time in eight years that they had failed to qualify. It was in an effort to jumpstart the team’s rebuilding process that the Boston Celtics traded Kevin Garnett to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007.

An entirely new ownership group took over and put together an all-star forward in Kevin Love to form a team that steadily improved and finished with the 10th best scoring differential in the NBA in 2013–14, but missed the playoffs after finishing with a 40–42 record in the Western Conference, which was their highest finishing record in nine seasons.

Lonzo Love, who was set to become a free agent after his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers expired in the following off-season, was moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who finished with the poorest record in the NBA (16–66) at the conclusion of the 2014–15 campaign.

When the Timberwolves began their rebuilding process after a 14-year playoff drought, they focused on developing their squad around a promising young core headlined by centre Karl-Anthony Towns, who was backed up by All-Star forward Jimmy Butler.

Following their entry into the league, the Timberwolves made their first participation in the postseason during the 2017–18 season. When Butler had a disagreement with his coach and teammates during the 2018–19 season, he was traded away from the squad. In the wake of Butler’s actions, Minnesota finished last in its division and was forced to miss the playoffs.
