Mina Kavani is an actress who has appeared in films such as Red Rose (2014), Black Turban, and Mr. Yousef (2011).

Mina Kavani was born in the Iranian capital of Tehran. She graduated from the Conservatoire Supérieur National d’Art Dramatique de Paris (CNSAD) after growing up in an artistic household and being the niece of the well-known film and play director Ali Raffi.

She voiced the character of Sahar in Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning film Argo in 2012.She was born into an artistic family and is the niece of Ali Raffi, a well-known film and play director.She graduated from Paris’s Conservatoire Supérieur National d’Art Dramatique (CNSAD). She was fascinated by acting since she was a child, and at the age of twelve, she began attending her uncle’s rehearsals on a regular basis.

She had her stage debut at the age of sixteen in the play It Doesn’t Snow in Egypt, directed by her uncle and performed on the stage of Tehran’s City Theatre, launching her career as an actor in Iran. She has worked with some of Iran’s most important filmmakers and theatre directors. She voiced the character of Sahar in Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning film Argo in 2012.

In the film Red Rose, directed by Spideh Farsi, she plays the protagonist Sara. International film festivals such as the Toronto Film Festival, the Festival de Marrakech, and the Chicago Film Festival have all shown the film. Because the film had some nudity, Kavani became the target of threats from the Iranian media, which led to her flight. Isabelle Huppert and Bertrand Bonello, who appreciated her performance in the film, helped her get her political refugee status.

Under the leadership of Roland Timsit, Kavani performed on the stage of l’Odeon-Theatre de l’Europe in 2014, performing poetry by Iranian contemporary poet Forough Farrokhzad. In 2015, she performed Happy Day Shakespeare with the renowned French actor Jean-Damien Barbin at the Auditorium Orchestre National de Lyon. In the same year, she was named as one of the jury for the Rencontre Cinemathographique de Cannes (with actress Marisa Berenson).

The jury’s president was Patrick De Carolis. During the Festival d’Avignon in 2015 and 2016, she played the acclaimed modern Austrian poet Ingeborg Bachmann in Barbara Hutt’s drama Malina. In 2016, she starred as Lili in Moroccan filmmaker Camellia Montassere’s film Sous Transe.

In 2017-18, she played Ipek in the National Theatre of Strasburg’s production of Snow, an adaptation of the novel by Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk (winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Literature), directed by Blandine Savetier (TNS). The drama was staged throughout France and China.
