Milwaukee Bucks Bio Data :

In the NBA’s Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (NBA). Three conference championships (1971, 1974, and 2021) and two NBA championships have been won by the Bucks (1971 and 2021). The Bucks were created in 1968 and finished last in their initial season. Despite winning 11 more games than their fellow expansion team, the Phoenix Suns, the Bucks won a coin toss for the 1969 NBA draft’s top pick, which they used to choose collegiate standout Lew Alcindor (known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from 1971).

Milwaukee increased its win total by 29 games with Alcindor in 1969–70, finishing second in the NBA (56–26) behind the New York Knicks, who then eliminated the Bucks in the Eastern Division playoffs. The following offseason, the Bucks acquired future Hall of Fame point player Oscar Robertson, who assisted Milwaukee in posting a league-best 66–16 record in 1970–71. The Bucks then comfortably defeated the San Francisco Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Baltimore Bullets in the postseason on route to winning the NBA title in just their third season, a feat unprecedented in the four major North American professional team sports.

Milwaukee qualified for the playoffs in each of the next three seasons, including a berth in the 1974 NBA finals, where the Bucks fell to the Boston Celtics in a seven-game series.

A reorganized Bucks squad led by Don Nelson (1976–87) and featured forward Marques Johnson, guard Sidney Moncrief, and guard-forward Junior Bridgeman began a franchise-record streak of 12 consecutive postseason appearances in 1979–80.

In 1982–83 and 1983–84, the team advanced to two consecutive conference finals but were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics, respectively. Moncrief and forward Terry Cummings was the Bucks’ standout performer in 1985–86 when Milwaukee reached its third Eastern Conference finals in four years only to be denied a trip to the NBA championships by the Celtics.

The franchise experienced a high point in 1994, when they won the NBA draught lottery and picked forward Glenn Robinson. In 1998–99, Robinson and sharpshooting guard Ray Allen returned the Bucks to the postseason. Milwaukee was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs that season and the following season by the Indiana Pacers. In 2000–01, the Bucks advanced to another Eastern Conference finals but were defeated in seven games by the 76ers.

The following decade saw the Bucks earn three additional postseason berths with All-Star guard Michael Redd, but further success eluded the team: Milwaukee won only three games in the first decade of the new millennium. Although the Bucks snuck into the playoffs in 2012–13 despite a losing record, the team plummeted to new lows the following season, posting the NBA’s lowest record and winning a franchise-low 15 games. The franchise produced a spectacular recovery in 2014–15 under new head coach Jason Kidd, as a young Bucks squad exceeded expectations by adding 26 victories to its previous season total and returning to the playoffs. Milwaukee, however, swiftly fell to the NBA’s bottom levels the following season.

The swift rise to stardom of dynamic wing Giannis Antetokounmpo during the 2016–17 season catapulted the Bucks back into the playoffs. While Milwaukee improved with Antetokounmpo, management became dissatisfied with Kidd’s coaching style, and Kidd was fired during the 2017–18 season, which ended with the Bucks losing in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Milwaukee signed defensive-minded coach Mike Budenholzer over the offseason, and he swiftly transformed the Bucks into one of the NBA’s best-coached teams, leading them to the league’s best record in 2018–19.

The squad progressed to the conference finals for the first time in 18 years during the playoffs but was eliminated in the first round by the Toronto Raptors. The Bucks again finished with the league’s top record in 2019–20 but were defeated in the postseason by the Miami Heat in a devastating five-game second-round series. Milwaukee’s repeated playoff exits prompted greater calls to dismiss Budenholzer in the off-season, but the team stuck with Budenholzer and added point guard Jrue Holiday to provide consistent on-court leadership and another strong defensive presence.

The Bucks remained one of the NBA’s greatest teams in 2020–21, but they finished as the Eastern Conference’s third seed in the playoffs. Milwaukee exorcised its postseason demons thanks to clutch performances by Holiday, All-Star guard Khris Middleton, and Antetokounmpo, who helped the team overcome multiple series deficits en route to the NBA finals. There, despite a 2–0 deficit to the Phoenix Suns, Antetokounmpo put together one of the greatest finals performances in history, averaging 35.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, and leading the Bucks to four straight victories (including a remarkable 50 points in the deciding sixth game).
