Los Angeles Rams Bio Data :

The Los Angeles Rams are an American professional gridiron football team that competes in the National Football League’s National Football Conference (NFC) (NFL). The Rams, who are based in Los Angeles, have won two NFL championships (1945 and 1951) and one Super Bowl (2000). The Rams were founded in 1936 as a member of the short-lived American Football League and were originally based in Cleveland.

They joined the NFL the following year. The new team failed to win a game in any of the following five seasons after losing all but one game in its debut season in the NFL. Due to a player scarcity caused by World War II, the Rams had to put their operations on hold in 1943. In 1945, rookie quarterback Bob Waterfield led the Rams to their first winning season (9–1) and an NFL championship game triumph over the Washington Redskins.

The Rams were the first professional football club to put an insignia (a pair of golden ram’s horns) on their helmets in 1948, an innovation that would pay off handsomely for the sport as it entered the television era, when distinctive headgear helped teams establish distinct identities among fans. The Rams had a high-powered attack in the early 1950s, led by quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and ends Elroy Hirsch and Tom Fears, both of whom would go on to become Hall of Famers. Between 1950 and 1955, the team had no losing seasons, and in 1951, they defeated the Browns to win the NFL title. Through the end of the 1950s and into the 1960s, the Rams’ success helped the club set attendance records.

Now is the time to subscribe. In the 1960s, the squad was known for its outstanding defensive line, which included tackles Merlin Olsen and Roosevelt (“Rosie”) Grier, as well as ends Deacon Jones and Lamar Lundy. Roman Gabriel, a 6-foot-5-inch (1.9-metre) quarterback for the Rams, was also the first “large” quarterback in pro football. However, despite Foursome’s dominance, the Rams never moved beyond the divisional playoff round throughout the 1960s. From 1973 until 1980, the squad achieved a club-record eight straight postseason appearances, spearheaded by a fearsome defensive unit led by defensive end Jack Youngblood.

During this stretch, the Rams won at least 10 games seven times in a season and advanced to the NFC title game five times, winning only once. Following a 9–7 regular season in 1979, the Rams proceeded on a playoff run in which they won two straight road games before losing in Super Bowl XIV to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The squad was known for their rushing onslaught in the 1980s, which was led by offensive guard Jackie Slater and running back Eric Dickerson. The Rams were relatively successful during the decade, missing the playoffs only three times in that time frame. However, they did not return to the Super Bowl.

The Rams’ lack of on-field success (the team won no more than six games in each season between 1990 and 1994) and the resulting decline in attendance, combined with owner Georgia Frontiere’s desire to play in a more profitable stadium, prompted her to begin looking for new homes for the team in the early 1990s. In 1995, the NFL approved the team’s relocation to St. Louis, Missouri, and the Rams became the first professional football team to leave the West Coast, reversing a decades-long trend in sports franchise relocations.

The Rams’ first four seasons in St. Louis were abysmal, with their win total declining in each of their first four seasons, culminating in a disastrous 1998 season in which the team went 4–12. The Rams began on one of the most spectacular comebacks in league history in 1999. The Rams went 13–3 in the regular season in 1999, advancing to their second Super Bowl in franchise history, behind unheralded former backup quarterback Kurt Warner, who led a potent offense later nicknamed “The Greatest Show on Turf,” which included running back Marshall Faulk as well as wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Torrey Holt.

The squad scored a stunning 23–16 victory over the Tennessee Titans to win the Super Bowl for the first time. The Rams were one of the league’s highest-scoring teams during the first decade of the twenty-first century, returning to the Super Bowl in 2002 but losing to the New England Patriots. The squad finally broke through in its second season back in California, adding seven victories to its four in 2016 to win the division and end a franchise-record 13-year playoff drought. In 2018, the Rams had a 13–3 record, which was tied for the best in the NFL at the time.
