Los Angeles Angels Bio Data :

The Angels of Anaheim are a professional baseball team based in Anaheim, California that participates in the American League and is owned by the Anaheim Angels Foundation (AL). The Angels won the World Series in 2002, their first participation in the “Fall Classic,” and went on to win the World Series and the championship. The Angels were one of two expansion teams awarded by Major League Baseball that season (the other being the Washington Senators), and they became the sport’s first newcomers to either of the two major leagues in 60 years when they moved to Anaheim.

The Angels won their first World Series in 1961 and their second World Series in 1962, respectively. The Angels were originally brought to Los Angeles by Gene Autry, the “Singing Cowboy,” who owned them and was the driving force behind their relocation. The California Angels were the team that took over for the Los Angeles Dodgers when they were relocated to Los Angeles in 1965.

After five seasons in Los Angeles, which included a winning season in only their second season of competition, they relocated to Anaheim, which was only a short drive away from their previous home. During the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Cincinnati Reds, Aramis Ramirez, who is wearing the number 16, watches the ball leave the ballpark as it exits the ballpark. Major League Baseball is the highest level of baseball competition (MLB).

Prior to the 1972 season, the Angels acquired Nolan Ryan, a future Hall of Fame pitcher who would go on to have a storied career. The Angels’ uniforms would go on to see Ryan pitch four of his seven career no-hitters while he was there, as well as assist the team in making its first-ever postseason appearance in 1981. (as a member of a team led by Fregosi) After making the playoffs in 1982 and 1986, the Angels were unable to advance to the World Series in each season, despite possessing two- and three-game series leads, respectively, in both of those seasons.

With six weeks left in the season, the Los Angeles Angels suffered yet another stunning collapse, this time ceding a division lead to the Seattle Mariners that was a franchise record at the time. The squad, then known as the Anaheim Angels, proceeded to the World Series in 2002 after winning its first postseason series and going to the finals of the American League Division Series. The Los Angeles Angels won a dramatic seven-game series against the San Francisco Giants, which featured four games decided by a single run and was led by sluggers Garret Anderson, Tim Salmon, and Troy Glaus.

The addition of perennial all-star Vladimir Guerrero in 2004 and the continued development of young pitchers such as Francisco Rodriguez helped the Angels establish themselves as a yearly playoff contender—winning division titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009—and one of baseball’s best teams through the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century, winning the American League West in 2004 and the American League West in 2009. Despite their efforts, they were unable to equal the postseason success of the 2002 Angels squad during those two seasons in Los Angeles.

In 2005, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim changed their name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Before the start of the 2012 season, the Los Angeles Angels signed three-time Most Valuable Player Albert Pujols to a 10-year contract, making him one of the most significant free-agent acquisitions in baseball history. However, despite the addition of Pujols and Mike Trout, who would go on to have one of the best rookie seasons in baseball history, the Angels were unable to qualify for the postseason.

Although the Angels finished the regular season with a 98-game winning streak, they were startled when they were swept by the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series the next year. In 2015, the Angels missed the postseason for the second year in a row by a single game, and they ended fourth the following season after finishing fourth the year before. Over the course of this time period, the team also removed the prefix “of Anaheim” from its official title and changed its logo. Following the conclusion of the 2016 season, the Angels will embark on a string of straight losing seasons.
