Joss Stone Bio Data :

Joss Stone (born 11 April 1987) is a British musician, songwriter, and actress who goes by the stage name Joscelyn Eve Stoker. Her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions, which made the 2004 Mercury Prize shortlist, catapulted her to fame in late 2003. Stone’s second album, the multi-platinum Mind Body & Soul (2004), debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and produced the top ten hit “You Had Me,” her most successful song on the UK Singles Chart to date. Both the album and the single were nominated for Grammy Awards in 2005, with Stone receiving a nomination for Best New Artist. In a poll of music critics conducted by the BBC, Sound of 2004 was ranked fifth as a projected breakthru. Stone auditioned for the BBC talent show Star for a Night in London in 2001, at the age of thirteen, singing Franklin’s 1968 Goffin-King hit “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and Whitney Houston’s 1999 song “It’s Not Right but It’s Okay.” She won the contest after passing her audition and singing Donna Summer’s “On the Radio” for the show. She was also a contestant on Steps to the Stars, where she won (a TV programme hosted by H & Claire of the group Steps). Stone then went on to play at a charity event, attracting the interest of the Boilerhouse Boys, a group of London-based producers led by Andy Dean and Ben Wolfe, who approached S-Curve Records founder and CEO Steve Greenb.

Career

Greenberg flew Stone to New York for an audition in early 2002, where she sang to backing tracks of classic soul songs such as Otis Redding’s 1968 “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” Gladys Knight & the Pips’ 1973 “Midnight Train to Georgia,” and Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”; Greenberg signed her to his label immediately. Following her signing with S-Curve Records, her album was released in the United States by S-Curve Records, and in the international market by EMI Music. Stone travelled to Miami and Philadelphia to begin work on The Soul Sessions, her debut album, which was released on September 16, 2003. The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 was released in July 2012, which features recording by Steve Greenberg. Stone returned to her original label, S-Curve Records, for the album, which was released simultaneously with the artist’s Stone’d Records (producer of the first “Soul Sessions”). The Chi-Lites, the Honey Cone, the Dells, Sylvia, Labi Siffre, and Linda Lewis are among the acts Stone covers on the record, which is mostly comprised of lesser-known soul songs from the 1970s and 1980s. The song charted in the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It was her first top ten album in the UK since 2004’s Mind Body & Soul. She performed live shows in Indonesia and the Philippines in 2013. She has made an appearance on a UK television show.

In 2018, Stone gave a performance. Stone collaborated with James Morrison on the single “My Love Goes On” at the start of 2019, marking four years since both singers released studio albums. Stone and producer Cam Noble embarked on their first full world tour in March 2019. She crossed into Syria illegally to play at Al-Malikiyah as part of her Total World Tour, which saw her perform in every country on the planet. She also played in Turkmenistan and North Korea later that month. Stone was refused entry to Iran, the final destination on her tour, in July 2019. Joss Stone’s single Lean On Me was released in April 2020; the album was co-written by Beverley Knight and included a music video depicting the efforts of National Health Service volunteers. Stone launched her podcast, A Cuppa Happy, in August 2020, with the aim of further understanding the mysterious, transient essence of happiness. Stone won the second season of The Masked Singer as Sausa in February 2021. On 15 February 2021, Stone gave a live interview on ITV’s This Morning from her home in Nashville, Tennessee, to discuss her ‘Champion’ winning appearance on Series 2 of The Masked Singer, which drew 8.6 million viewers over Valentine’s weekend. In September 2020, she filmed the finale while heavily pregnant. Her singing persona was dressed as a sausage and chips costume, and her real identity was kept hidden until she was announced as the winner of the second season.
