Jet Li Phone Bio Data :

Jet Li is an actor and martial artist who was born on April 26, 1963, in Beijing, China. Li won his first national championship in wushu at the age of eleven. When Li was 17, he quit from the sport and made his cinematic debut in Shaolin Temple, which made him a household name in his native China. He has alternated between Chinese and English-language films since 1994, starring in Hollywood films such as Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, and The Forbidden Kingdom. Jet Li was born Li Lian Jie on April 26, 1963, in Beijing, China, to a family of five children.

Li’s father died while he was only two years old. He began learning wushu, a type of martial arts, when he was eight years old. His family recognised his talent and sent him to a special school to pursue his education. “I came from a really poor family, and we didn’t have enough money for a proper education,” Li subsequently said to Muscle & Fitness magazine. “So sports-school was fantastic; it gave me nice meals and an opportunity out of China.”

Li won his first national championship when he was 11 years old. As a result, as a member of the Bejing Wushu Team, he travelled to over 45 countries. Li visited the United States in 1974 and performed a martial arts display for President Richard M. Nixon. That year, he was crowned All-Around National Wushu Champion, a title he kept for five years in a row.

Career

Li left the sport when he was 17 years old. He made his cinematic debut in Shaolin Temple, directed by Chang Hsin Yen (1982). Li became a star in his home country as a result of the picture, which inspired multiple sequels. Li had gone to Hong Kong by the end of the 1980s. For Romeo Must Die (2000), Li collaborated with rapper DMX and vocalist Aaliyah on a hip-hop-meets-martial-arts interpretation on Shakespeare’s classic tale of adolescent love, Romeo and Juliet. Aaliyah and Li portrayed star-crossed lovers from two feuding criminal dynasties. The film was a box office success, grossing almost $100 million. Li featured alongside Bridget Fonda in Luc Besson’s Kiss of the Dragon in 2001.

He assisted in the development of the film’s storey, which follows a wronged intelligence officer who seeks to clear his record with the help of a prostitute (played by Fonda). In the same year, Li starred in The One, a complex science fiction film. He portrayed two primary characters in the film: an unknowing California sheriff and a merciless killer who travels across parallel worlds to eliminate other versions of himself. Critics lambasted the picture because of its muddled premise and lacklustre acting.

Following that, he collaborated with director Yimou Zhang on the Chinese historical drama Hero, in which Li portrayed a 3rd century Chinese warrior. The film was released in China in 2002, and it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. He subsequently teamed up with DMX for the criminal drama Cradle 2 the Grave in 2003, which earned mixed reviews and a lacklustre response from audiences. Li then starred in Unleashed, a film that brought her back to the big screen after a long absence (2005).

He portrayed a man who was a mafia family’s hostage killing machine. After his collar was removed, the character was taught to become violent. Li worked with an acting coach to prepare for the role. “We went to see the wild dogs in the pound to observe how they act when they’re hungry or angry… I spent a few nights on location with only bread and water to get a feel for it “Li told Muscle & Fitness magazine about it. The picture had a strong opening weekend, debuting at No. 3 in theatres. Li’s next film, Fearless (2006), starred him as Huo Yuanjia, a renowned Chinese martial arts teacher.

Li got the pleasure to collaborate with Jackie Chan, another well-known martial artist, in the film The Forbidden Kingdom (2008). The movie, on the other hand, was a letdown. As critic Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle put it: “The film also sufficiently answers why Chan and Li have yet to collaborate on a film in their combined 55-year careers: Chan is a far superior actor. In terms of the fights and the movie, it’s a stalemate.” Li had better luck with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a Hollywood action sequel (2008).

Li plays a ruthless Chinese emperor buried with 10,000 terra cotta warriors who is revived from his endless slumbers by a youthful adventurer in the latest edition of The Mummy movie (Luke Ford). The adventurer’s parents, played by Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello, aid him in his fight against the evil ruler. Despite the fact that it was panned by reviewers, the picture was a hit among action lovers.

At the box office, it grossed more than $100 million. Li appeared in two more films as he transitioned back and forth between Hollywood productions and Chinese language films. Ocean Paradise, a Chinese father-son drama, starred him. Li also appeared in Sylvester Stallone’s 2010 film The Expendables, in which he played a mercenary who joins forces to overthrow a South American dictator. Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, wrestler Steven Austin, and ultimate fighter Randy Couture were among the cast members.

He went on to star in the successful franchise’s succeeding editions in 2012 and 2014. In the 2020 live-action adaptation of Mulan, he also played the Emperor. Nina, Li’s wife, and he married in 1999. Together, the couple has two daughters. Li has two daughters
