Isaac Wright Jr. Biography and Wiki:

Isaac Wright Jr. is a prominent American attorney, consultant, businessman, and philanthropist. He was born on January 23, 1962 in the United States. The fact that he was wrongly accused and convicted as a drug lord and sentenced to life in prison in 1991 facing 10 charges concerning the selling of cocaine brought him the most notoriety and brought him to the forefront of public consciousness. In 1997, his conviction was overturned as a result of litigation that he initiated on the basis of police corruption during his investigation and the prosecutor’s knowing presentation of perjured testimony at his trial. He claimed that both of these instances occurred during the course of his investigation. For Life, a drama/series production for television that began airing in 2020 on American Broadcasting Company, tells the tale of his life from start to finish. In the election for mayor of New York City that took place in 2021, he stood as a contender for the position of mayor.

During the early 1980s, Wright, together with his wife and daughter, were residing in New York City. During this time, Wright was a member of the dance trio Uptown Express, and he had an appearance on the talent show Star Search for many weeks. In the late 1980s, he was a talent manager and operated an independent record label known as X-Press Records. At the same time, his wife, Sunshine, was a member of a platinum selling group that he co-founded called The Cover Girls. This group performed pop and urban contemporary musical styles. In 1989, Isaac Wright Jr. was detained and wrongfully accused of being the mastermind behind one of the greatest drug distribution networks in the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas. This accusation was proven to be untrue. In 1991, following his detention for close to two years, he was put on trial for violating New Jersey’s drug kingpin statute, and he was found guilty. [7] As a result of the kingpin conviction, he was ultimately given a term of life in prison, in addition to a total of 72 years in prison on convictions on other offences.

In a supplemental defence pro se brief that he submitted in another prisoner’s case, State v. Alexander, 264 N.J. Super 102, Wright developed a novel theory while he was still serving a life sentence. This brief was submitted while Wright was still in jail (1993). In that court brief, Wright made an attack on the jury instructions that the state of New Jersey uses in instances involving drug kingpins. He reasoned that the instructions were in conflict with the intent of the legislation regarding who should be charged and convicted of being a drug kingpin. In the case of Alexander, Wright’s argument was successful, and as a result of the State of New Jersey’s unsuccessful appeal to the New Jersey Supreme Court, Wright was able to establish a precedent for a new legal principle. In the case of State v. Wright, 143 N.J. 580, Wright made use of the newly enacted legislation in a supplemental defence pro se brief in order to get his own kingpin conviction and life sentence overturned (1996). Despite the fact that this was effective in getting Wright’s life sentence commuted, he continued to serve time on a number of other offences that carried cumulative jail terms of almost seventy years.

After the conclusion of his direct appeal, Wright filed a motion with the lower court for post-conviction relief (PCR), in which he asserted that the police and prosecutors had committed misconduct in his case. During Wright’s cross-examination of an experienced police detective named James Dugan in 1996, the detective admitted to Wright that improper police activity had occurred in the investigation of his case. Due to the fact that Dugan’s confession brought up allegations of widespread and systemic police and prosecutorial misconduct and cover-up in Wright’s case, Wright was ultimately freed as a consequence of the cross-examination that took place. It was determined that the orchestrator of the misbehavior was the Somerset County Prosecutor, Nicholas L. Bissell Jr., who had been in charge of the prosecution of Wright’s case. Bissell not only instructed law enforcement personnel to fabricate reports, but he also physically transcribed the fraudulent statements made by witnesses against Wright. In addition, Bissell struck covert negotiations with defence counsel to have their clients perjure themselves in front of the jury, claiming that Wright was their drug boss, that they had pleaded guilty, and that they were headed to prison.

In order for Dugan to avoid going to jail, he entered a guilty plea to official misconduct. Michael Imbriani, who served as Wright’s trial judge and was responsible for further concealing the secret bargains through improper sentencing procedures, was dismissed from the bench and is currently serving time in prison on theft charges unrelated to the case. After seeing the news on television and learning of Dugan’s confession, Bissell fled the scene while federal investigators pursued him. Later, when authorities attempted to apprehend Bissell, he took his own life. After spending over seven years in jail, Wright’s remaining convictions were overturned, and he was immediately released and finally cleared of all charges. Wright was ultimately exonerated of all the allegations against him. That ruling was upheld by the highest court in the state of New Jersey.

Following his release from jail, Wright pursued a career in law. In 2002, he received a bachelor’s degree in human services from Thomas Edison State University. The following year, he enrolled in law school and earned his degree in 2007 from St. Thomas University School of Law. After successfully obtaining admission to the bar in 2008, Wright was under investigation by the New Jersey Bar’s Committee on Character for the next nine years. On September 27, 2017, the New Jersey Supreme Court finally granted Wright admission to the bar after reviewing the findings of the investigation. On that day, Wright made history by becoming the first and only person in the history of the United States to have been sentenced to life in prison, securing his own release and exoneration, and then being granted a licence to practise law by the very court that condemned him. He was able to do all of these things by appealing his conviction.

Isaac Wright Jr. was given a sentence of life in prison in 1991 for violating the drug kingpin statutes in New Jersey after being falsely convicted on drug charges in the state of New Jersey. He worked as a paralegal while he was detained, and he assisted in overturning the unjust convictions of twenty of his fellow convicts before he was eventually able to prove his own innocence. Following his release from prison, he attended Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey, for his undergraduate degree, and then St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, for his legal education. 2007 was the year he received his diploma, and 2008 was the year he passed the bar. Hank Steinberg, co-creator of The Last Ship and executive producer of Power, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, executive producer of The Goldbergs, and Doug Robinson, executive producer of The Goldbergs, along with Sony Pictures Television, are behind the project. The new television drama series, which is based on Isaac’s story, was written by Steinberg. He was convicted of being the kingpin of one of the greatest drug distribution networks in New Jersey despite the fact that his conviction was based on false evidence. Despite this, he is now licenced to practise law in the very same courthouse in which he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. While incarcerated, Wright educated himself on legal matters and worked as a proxy attorney, penning papers and motions with the goal of having the convictions of more than 20 other offenders overturned and, ultimately, of having his own sentence overturned. His primary responsibilities in the law firm of Hunt, Hamlin & Ridley include defending those who have been falsely charged and investigating and prosecuting corrupt organisations.
