Golden State Warriors Bio Data :

The basketball team Golden State Warriors is situated in San Francisco (NBA). The Warriors have five NBA titles (1956, 1975, 2015, 2017, and 2018) and one BAA Championship (1947). The Warriors were created in 1946 in Philadelphia. The squad won the league’s first championship behind future Hall of Fame forward Joe Fulks, the league’s first leading scorer. The Warriors lost in the BAA finals the next year, and the BAA amalgamated with the NBA in 1949. (NBL). In their first six seasons in the new league, the Warriors only finished fourth in their division.

But in 1955–56, the Warriors, coached by Paul Arizin and Neil Johnston, won their first NBA title. In 1959, Philadelphia added Wilt Chamberlain, a future NBA legend. In 1962, the Warriors’ final season in Philadelphia, he scored an NBA-record 100 points in a game. After the 1961–62 season, a group of Bay Area investors bought the team and renamed it the San Francisco Warriors. The Warriors made it to the NBA finals in 1964 and 1967 but lost to teams led by Chamberlain and featuring forward Rick Barry, center Nate Thurmond, and guard-forward Jeff Mullins.

Barry, who led the NBA in scoring in 1966–67, joined the Oakland Oaks of the new American Basketball Association the following year. Al Attles, a former Warriors player, became the team’s coach in 1969–70 and coached for 14 seasons. The team relocated to Oakland in 1971 and renamed themselves the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors beat the Washington Bullets in the NBA finals in 1974–75, and Attles became the first African American full-time head coach to win a championship (Bill Russell had previously won a championship as a player-coach). Between 1977–78 and 1985–86, the Warriors’ standard of play plummeted, and they finished last in their division five times.

In the late 1980s, the Warriors were known for their fast-paced offense and emphasis on scoring over the defense. The 1989–90 and 1990–91 teams were dubbed “Run T.M.C.” (after the rap group Run D.M.C.) for the initial names of the high-scoring trio of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin.  From 1994–95 to 2005–06, Golden State finished last or second-to-last in every season except one. In 2006–07, the Warriors made their first postseason appearance in 13 years.

The Warriors then made NBA history by defeating the Dallas Mavericks in seven games, becoming the first eighth-seeded club to do it. Golden State missed the playoffs for three years in a row, forcing Nelson to quit in 2010. The Warriors made the playoffs in 2012–13, led by star guard Stephen Curry. The Warriors became a juggernaut under new coach Steve Kerr in 2014–15, winning a franchise-record 67 games and reaching the NBA finals for the first time in 40 years.

Golden State defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a six-game series to win the NBA title. In 2015–16, the Warriors broke the previous record of 72 victories set by the 1995–96 Chicago Bulls by winning 73 games to just nine losses in the regular season. The Warriors struggled in the Western Conference playoffs, dropping at least one game in each series, including a 3–1 series deficit against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the conference finals.

The Warriors then signed superstar free agent forward Kevin Durant to their record-breaking lineup. Golden State lost six games in the regular season but made up for it in the postseason, sweeping three straight series on route to a third straight Western Conference title. The Warriors faced the Cavaliers again in the NBA finals and extended their domination by only dropping one game to Cleveland en route to another NBA victory, confirming that the Warriors club is one of the best ever.

Injuries and a lack of urgency during the regular season led to a 58-win season in 2017–18. But the Warriors delivered in the postseason, capturing their fourth straight conference title and advancing to the NBA Finals against Cleveland, which they swept in four games. The Warriors won 57 games in 2018–19, the fewest in the Kerr era, but still led the Western Conference. Finals berth after four losses in the conference playoffs as Golden State becomes the first NBA club to win five consecutive conference crowns.

In the decade from 1956–57 through 1965–66, the Boston Celtics won 10 consecutive NBA championships. The Warriors’ finals were a multi-faceted debacle. To make matters worse, both Kevin Durant (torn Achilles tendon) and All-Star wing Klay Thompson (torn ACL) suffered injuries that often take a year to heal, putting the Warriors’ dynasty in jeopardy. The Warriors returned to San Francisco in 2019 after 48 years in Oakland, moving into a new waterfront arena.
