Donald Lawrence Biography and Wiki:

Donald Lawrence is a gospel music performer, record producer, and songwriter who was born on May 4, 1961 in Gastonia, North Carolina. He is a native of the United States. He is most recognised for his songs “The Blessing of Abraham” and “Encourage Yourself,” both of which were nominated for Grammy Awards. He attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in music. He is the recipient of multiple Grammy and Stellar Awards, and he has worked as a vocal coach for the R&B group En Vogue, the musical director for Stephanie Mills, a songwriter for The Clark Sisters, and as a collaborator with a wide variety of artists, including Peabo Bryson, Kirk Franklin, Karen Clark Sheard, Donnie McClurkin, and Mary J. Blige. In addition, he has won multiple Grammy and Stellar Awards. After a friend stepped down from his role as musical director of The Tri-City Singers, Lawrence agreed to take on the responsibility.

The members of The Tri-City Singers hail from the cities of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Gastonia, North Carolina; and Charlotte, North Carolina. A Songwriter’s Point of View, the band’s first release, was issued in 1993 by Glossocentric Records, an independent record company that was only starting out at the time. The collection began its journey on the Billboard Top Gospel Charts at position No. 2 overall. When it was finally released in 1995, the band’s follow-up album, Bible Stories, would quickly rise to the top of the same lists. It was the first album to be labelled as Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers and featured classics that were omnipresent in black churches, such as “A Message For The Saints,” “I Am God,” and “Stranger.” Crystal Rose Records, which was just founded by Lawrence and distributed by Sparrow Records, was responsible for the album’s release and distribution.

In 1997, Donald Lawrence was the producer for the live portion of Karen Clark Sheard’s debut album, Finally Karen, which was nominated for a Grammy. In the same year, Lawrence & Tri-City also released their holiday album titled “Hello Christmas.” After that, Lawrence committed his musical future to the Island Records label known as Island Inspirational by signing a contract. Despite the fact that a live recording was done for the purpose of release, the album was never produced. EMI Gospel became Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers’ new home in the year 2000 after the group signed with the label. As part of the marketing campaign for the new album, a maxi CD of the lead single “Testify” was distributed to popular radio stations. The song reached position No. 33 on the Billboard Mainstream Dance Charts as a result of Junior Vasquez’s house remixes.  When tri-city4.com was finally made available to the public in the late summer of 2000, the album reached its highest position on the Top Gospel Charts of Billboard and its position on the Heatseekers Charts of Billboard was 13. The all-star standout “God’s Favor,” which features vocal appearances from Karen Clark Sheard, Kim Burrell, and Kelly Price, contributed to the album’s increased visibility and helped raise its overall popularity.

Lawrence delayed the release of the follow-up album, Go Get Your Life Back, until early 2002, after a delay of over two years. The first single off the album is a song called “The Best Is Yet to Come,” which has a sound that is somewhat similar to that of the band’s previous hit song “Testify.” Both Ann Nesby, formerly of Sounds of Blackness, and Bishop Walter Hawkins, a pioneer in the field of gospel music, made special appearances on this record. The momentum was maintained with the publication in 2003 of an album of greatest hits titled “Restoring the Years,” which also included two new tracks. Donald Lawrence’s career would begin anew with the release of his upcoming record. I Speak Life was his first solo album, the first release under his newly formed sublabel Quiet Water Entertainment, and the debut for his recently signed recording contract with Verity Records. The CD featured a large number of guest artists, despite the fact that The Tri-City Singers were not included.

The album has contributions from a variety of artists, including Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker, Faith Evans, Richard Smallwood, and Carl Thomas. Even well-known names in jazz like Ramsey Lewis and Lalah Hathaway were present for the reimagining of the Bible Stories classic “Don’t Forget To Remember.” As a result of his efforts, Lawrence received a total of seven nominations for Stellar Awards, and he ended up winning six of them. The Tri-City Singers made the announcement that they would be disbanding in March of 2006, but not before releasing one more live album. On April 4, 2006, both “Finale: Act One” and “Finale: Act Two” were made available to the public simultaneously. Each release consisted of a CD and DVD set that documented the audio and video of one half of the concert. The sets were designed to be compatible with one another and play seamlessly together. Later on, a limited version of Finale that included both CDs and DVDs was made available to purchase. At the spectacular concert, notable gospel artists such as Bishop Walter Hawkins, Karen Clark Sheard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Daryl Coley, LaShun Pace, and Darwin Hobbs made special appearances.

In December 2006, the lead song from the album, titled “The Blessing of Abraham,” was submitted for consideration for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Gospel Performance. It wasn’t until February 2009 that he released his sophomore solo album, titled The Law of Confession Part I. Soon after that, Donald mentioned in an interview that The Law of Confession, Part II would be made available soon but that he was concentrating on other projects in the meanwhile. Donald Lawrence is the kind of person that would be difficult to sum up in a single word, which is ironic considering the amount of pleasure he derives from words. For the young man who spent his childhood in Gastonia and has since taken his music all around the world, there is never a moment when change isn’t taking place. When it was recently revealed that he had been selected as a member of the newest class of inductees into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, Lawrence was recognised as a musician, as well as a songwriter, a record producer, and a vocal teacher. He is the living embodiment of a paradox. There is no easy way to categories someone as complex as Donald Lawrence.

Donald Lawrence Phone Number, Email, Contact Information, House Address, and Social Profiles:

Independent and self-motivated to the extreme – “I’m fiercely independent, often to the point of being a liability. I take care of everything on my own” — the walls of his home in Chicago are covered with Grammys and Stellar trophies, which are the gospel music equivalent of Grammys. However, in the following instant, he is quick to cast the finger at others, including a rhythm and blues diva and the theatre coach he had at Hunter Huss High School, for playing a role in his success. Lawrence has shared the stage with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s PTL Ministries at the height of the power of the Christian television station, and she has also coached the pop female super group En Vogue on the eve of their first national tour. Both of these experiences took place when the Christian television station was at its most influential. The first group he formed in Gastonia when he was a teenager was called RD&M, and it would end up having as much star power as the gospel choir Tri-City Singers. The Tri-City Singers were comprised of talents from Gastonia, Charlotte, and Spartanburg, South Carolina; these were the talents whose sound he tweaked and delivered to an audience all over the world.

In addition to being one of the most well-known gospel choirs of the 1990s, Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers were also successful in making a splash in the non-religious media, a feat that was only accomplished by a select few other Christian artists performing during the decade. The choir made its debut in 1993 with the release of the album A Songwriter’s Point of View on the minuscule GospoCentric label. Comprised of Lawrence in addition to 34 members from the “Tri-Cities” of Gastonia and Charlotte, North Carolina as well as Spartanburg, South Carolina, the choir made its debut. Over time, the record rose all the way to the number two spot on the gospel rankings. The year came to a close with the Tri-City Singers being recognised as one of the Top Ten Gospel Groups by Billboard, as well as being the recipients of multiple Stellar Awards and having been nominated for the Image Award presented by the NAACP. Following the release of their second album, Bible Stories, in 1995 on Crystal Rose/Chordant Records, the choir issued an LP titled Hello Christmas the following year, in 1997.

In the year 2000, Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers became artists on the EMI Gospel label and released their album tri-city4.com during the summer of the same year. After that, in 2002, Go Get Your Life Back was released. 2003 saw the release of a greatest hits album titled “Restoring the Years,” which also featured two brand new tunes. The next year saw the publication of I Speak Life, Lawrence’s debut album under his own name as a solo artist. The Tri-City Singers made the announcement that they were disbanding the group in the spring of 2006. They also recorded their final concert, which was later distributed as two separate albums in the same year under the titles Finalé: Act One and Finalé: Act Two. In February of 2009, Lawrence released his second solo album, titled The Law of Confession, Part I. It has been claimed that a second part of the album will be released in the near future. However, Lawrence’s subsequent album, which was released in 2011, was given the moniker YRM, which stands for “Your Righteous Mind.”
