Dido Bio Data :

Dido, an electronic pop singer/songwriter who rose to international prominence at the end of the 1990s by releasing two of the best-selling albums in the United Kingdom’s history. No Angel, her debut album released in 1999, reached the top of the charts all over the world and sold more than 20 million copies. Similarly successful was her follow-up album, 2003’s Life for Rent.

Its success was aided by her soothing blend of electronic production and pastoral heart, which could be heard on tracks such as “White Flag,” which was her highest-charting and best-selling single to that point. Despite being separated by long periods of silence, each subsequent album added to her already extensive discography and helped her establish herself as one of the most beloved English artists of the early twenty-first century.

She was born Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong in Kensington, and she began studying music at the Guildhall School of Music in London when she was six years old. By the time she was a teenager, the aspiring musician had already mastered the piano, violin, and recorder. Following a successful tour with a British classical group, she got a position in publishing.

Over the next few years, she sang with a variety of local ensembles until joining the trip-hop group Faithless, which was led by her older brother Rollo, who is a well-known DJ and producer, in 1995. The next year, the trio released its debut album, Reverence, which was well received. It went on to sell more than five million copies worldwide, and Dido was able to leverage her newfound fame into a solo recording contract with Arista Records in 2007.

Career

Dido’s ethereal solo material incorporated elements of acoustic music and electronica into a cohesive whole. The publication of her debut LP, No Angel, in mid-1999 was accompanied by a summer tour with Lilith Fair, which she joined to promote the album. Nonetheless, it was in 2000 that she received her most significant break, when rap sensation Eminem sampled one of her compositions, “Thank You,” for the chorus of his blockbuster single “Stan.”

The result was a very moving tune, and demand for the Dido original skyrocketed as soon as it became available. When Dido returned to the spotlight two years later, “Thank You” had already become a Top Five hit, as had the accompanying album No Angel, which had sold more than 12 million copies worldwide by that point. She followed up her critically acclaimed debut with the long-awaited Life for Rent, which was released in September 2003.

Dido’s sophomore album was laced with personal hardship and heartache, and it contains some of her most honest material to date. It was a highly anticipated release that rapidly became one of the best-selling albums in British history, quickly reaching multi-platinum status in the country while also selling several million copies in the United States. Doing so after a successful world tour, Dido withdrew from the public glare once more in 2005 to concentrate on her third solo album

Immediately following this, she recorded the single “Everything to Lose,” which was later included on the soundtrack for Sex and the City 2. When she released the single “If I Rise” in 2011, she began working on her fourth studio album, Girl Who Got Away, with producers Rollo Armstrong and Jeff Bhasker. She also worked with guest producer Brian Eno on the track “Day Before We Went to War,” which was released in 2012.

The album, which was released in 2013, also includes the song “Let Us Move On,” which was co-written by Kendrick Lamar. In 2008, following the release of a Greatest Hits collection later that year, Dido broke company with RCA and spent the next few years working on her next studio album.

In 2018, she released the single “Hurricanes,” which served as the launchpad for the release of her fifth studio album. Still, on My Mind (BMG), a duet with her brother Rollo was released in March 2019 and included the bonus tune “Give You Up.”
