Diana Ross’s birth name was Diane Earle, and she was born on March 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, United States, to parents who were both musicians. Elizabeth Taylor is an American pop singer and actress who first gained international recognition as the lead singer and lyricist of the singing group the Supremes, and then as a solo artist. She was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. The Primettes were a pop-soul vocal group formed in 1959 by Ross and a handful of her neighborhood friends.
Ross was only beginning out in her professional life when she joined the group. An agreement with Motown for recording services was made late in the following year, and the group was renamed the Supremes in order to reflect the name change. The Supremes had 12 number-one singles on the pop charts, including “Baby Love” (1964), “Stop! In the Name of Love” (1965), and “Someday We’ll Be Together” (1966).
The Supremes were founded by Ross and Mary Wilson, who was eventually succeeded by Cindy Birdsong as lead singer (1969). By calling themselves the Supremes in 1967, the group hinted at the beginning of Ross’s solo career, which began in 1970 with the publication of her debut album, Diana Ross, and continued until her death in 1992.
