David Fincher Bio Data :

David Fincher was born and raised in the California town of San Anselmo, where he developed a lifelong interest in cinema at a young age, in part as a result of his proximity to filmmaker George Lucas. He went on to become one of the most successful directors in the world. During his adolescence, Fincher began working as an assistant cameraman at Industrial Light & Magic, the special-effects business owned by George Lucas.

Fincher began directing commercials in the late 1980s, which quickly blossomed into a well-established career as a music video director for major record companies. The director of some of the most iconic music videos of the 1980s and 1990s, such as those for Madonna’s “Express Yourself” (1989) and “Vogue” (1990), as well as Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got a Gun,” is most known for his work in the music video industry (1989).

Extensive sets and skillful camerawork were among the features of these videos, which were noteworthy for their great cinematic elements. It was with Alien 3 that Fincher made his feature-film directing debut in 1992, and it remains one of the director’s most commercially successful pictures to date.

Despite the fact that there were issues with the production, the film did poorly in both the critical and commercial communities. Fincher decided to make a smaller-scale thriller in 1995 after having a bad experience with a major film franchise. The film revolved around two detectives (Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt) on the hunt for a serial killer (Kevin Spacey) who commits his murders in the name of the seven deadly sins, and the film was directed by Fincher.

Career

Se7en was a critical and commercial triumph, earning Fincher nominations for both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe. Despite mixed critical reception, Fincher’s melancholic thriller Se7en proved to be a commercial triumph, establishing him as an up-and-coming director in the eyes of the entertainment business. Following that, he directed The Game (1997), a thriller in which a financier (Michael Douglas) becomes caught in a hazardous game of cat and mouse after receiving an unusual birthday present from his errant brother (Edward Norton) (Sean Penn).

A perfectionist in front of the camera, Fincher has become well-known for his proclivity for reshooting scenes several times—sometimes more than 50 times for a single, seemingly inconsequential image. Because of his demanding attitude, he has been able to create pictures with extraordinary visual flair, such as his 1999 film Fight Club, which starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton and told the story of a disgruntled white-collar worker who decides to join an underground fighting organization.

As a satirical exploration of one’s own self-identity as well as one’s own masculinity, the film is also worth seeing. When it was released in theatres, the picture Fight Club was a critical and commercial flop. However, it immediately gained popularity on home video, where it has amassed a devoted following. In the years that followed, Fincher directed the film Panic Room (2002), which follows the story of a mother (Jodie Foster) and daughter (Kristen Stewart) who are forced to evacuate their home following a horrifying invasion. In 2007, Fincher released his next feature film, Zodiac (2007), which chronicled the story of the Zodiac killer’s murders and the ultimately unsuccessful attempt to catch him. It had been five years since his previous film.

His most recent film, Zodiac, represents a considerable change from his previous works in that it does not have his signature dark color palette, desolate urban settings, or dizzying camera angles. Instead, the film is a smart and dramatic procedural that is narrated in a straightforward manner, invoking the classic paranoid “whodunits” of the 1970s while remaining firmly grounded in the present. After directing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Fincher continues to broaden his horizons with a short story adaption by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a guy (played by Pitt) who has the capacity to age backward in time, Fincher will helm The Social Network (2010).

Fincher received his first Academy Award nomination for best director for his efforts on the film despite the fact that it did not receive as much critical acclaim as Zodiac. The Social Network (2010), a biographical film about Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to power, was his next effort as a director after that. As a modern-day counterpart to Citizen Kane, it received widespread praise from reviewers, and Fincher was awarded the Golden Globe for best director and nominated for an Academy Award as a result of his achievements.

For his directorial debut, Fincher turned to a grisly criminal story for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), a stylish adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel about an unsolved murder. Fincher had previously directed films that focused on violent crime.

For the show, Fincher also directed the premiere and the first two hour-long episodes, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the first episode. His second effort as a director was Gone Girl (2014), a thriller about the strange circumstances surrounding a woman’s disappearance that was released in 2014.

The film was based on the best-selling thriller novel by Gillian Flynn, which served as the inspiration. Immediately following that, Fincher worked on the Netflix series Mindhunter (2017–), which followed the FBI’s first criminal profilers.

A number of episodes of the show were directed by Fincher, who also served as an executive producer on the production. The following year, he will helm Mank (2020), a biopic on Herman Mankiewicz and the challenges he faced while writing the script for Orson Welles’ classic Citizen Kane, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture that year. The film received overwhelmingly good reviews, and Fincher was nominated for an Academy Award for best director for the third time for his work on the project.
