Cindy Birdsong Bio Data :

Birdsong is a born African American singer, Cindy Birdsong (born Cynthia Ann Birdsong in Camden, New Jersey on December 15, 1939). In 1960, Birdsong was a founder of Patti LaBelle&the Blue Belles, a group with which she was recruited by Berry Gordy in the Supremes, from her beginnings in 1960 until 1967.

Just as Birdsong became a member of the group, the Supremes changed their names to “Diana Ross & The Supremes,” recognising that Ross was a focus for the group. Cindy was initially welcomed with a cool response by Supreme fans, but has become a favourite and cherished member of the group for many fans over the course of the previous three decades.

Career

In 1970 Ross left the Supremes for a solo career, where he was introduced as a new lead singer to Jean Terrell. Birdsong continued with the Supremes until 1972, when she married her first child and became pregnant. Birdsong returned to the Supreme at the end of 1973 following her brief hiatus and remained there until 1976, when she left the event. Birdsong went to work for Suzanne de Passe at the Motown Records, and afterwards, Birdsong worked in the UCLA medical centre under her married names.

Cindy joined FM Mary Wilson and Diana Ross in a one-off meeting in 1983 to celebrate the twenty-five year Motown Records, with the award-winning television special Motown 25, yesterday and now and former Forever. Birdsong went back to singing in 1987 and issued Hi-Hat Records with the single, “Dancing Room.” In 2000, for the first time in 33 years, she met the Blue Belles. Other songs have been demoted, but none have been released. At present, she is a Los Angeles minister.

In 2004 Birdsong joined a medley of Supreme Hits for the special television programme for the 45th anniversary of Motown with the Child Sänger Kelly Rowland. Recently, the memoir was completed by Birdsong. On 2 December 1969, Birdsong and her then-friend Charles Hewlett and friend Howard Meek were kidnapped while returning to her apartment. Birdsong was forced to bind both by the invader, holding a cuff, and then she forced her into her car in the basement. Birdsong managed to open the automobile’s door and sail to safety from the car.

The Birdsong Apartment maintenance man, Charles Collier, phoned the police 4 days later, on December 6, 1969, and turned in.First Cindy Birdsong encountered the Supremes in 1963, and then again around 1965–66, when the Blue Belles opened up to them. In the same store LaBelle and the members of its group Patti LaBelle noted that there was a rivalry between these two groups, which came out after the Supremes were seen to be shopping for dresses. Group members were reportedly outraged when the Supremes appeared on stage with the same cost.

In the same period, the group also had an alumnus from Motown and a native of Philly, Tammi Terrell. After joining Atlantis in 1965, the Blue Belles was successful in recording the two popular albums: Over the Rainbow of 1966 and Dreamer of 1967, which scoring modest charting singles like “All or Nothing.” From mid- and late 1966, when Ballard’s battle with drinking and despair led her to miss crucial performances, Birdsong became an invited vocalist for Florence Ballard, the Supremist founder.

In 1967, Birdsong quit the Bluebelles abruptly to become an official substitute for Diana Ross and the Supremes. Birdsong reported that the Bluebelles that remained were irritated at her for not notifying them that she had joined the Supreme and for years refused to talk to her. Then they recorded Nona Hendryx’s composition, “(Can I Speak To You Before You Go To) Hollywood,” which was supposed to be based on the Birdsong’s storey of departing after the group changed their name to Labelle and shifted to funk and rock.

In the early 1980s, after Bishop Birdsong appeared during one of LaBella’s sold-out standing-room concerts, Birdsong and lead singer Patti LaBelle restored their connection. A Pioneer Award from the R&B Foundation was presented in 1999 to Birdsong and the other Blue Belles by Lauryn Hill.
