Christopher Kurt Bahr, a former professional American football and soccer player, was born on February 3, 1953.
Career
The Philadelphia Atoms selected Bahr in the first round of the 1975 North American Soccer League draught. He made an early impact as a rookie midfielder, tying an NASL scoring record most goals scored by a local-born American with 11, including two two-goal outings and four game winners. In front of a crowd of 20,124 at Veterans Stadium, Bahr also scored the first sudden death goal in Atoms history. He was voted Rookie of the Year in the NASL in 1975. Before leaving for the NFL, Bahr played 22 games for the Atoms, scoring 11 goals.
Bahr also played for the United States National Team in 1976, with his Atoms coach, Al Miller. In the qualifying stages for the XXI Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he scored both goals for the United States in a 2-0 shutout of Bermuda. After four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Bahr moved on to the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, where he became a reliable placekicker. He is the Raiders’ second-leading scorer (817 points), and his 162 career field goals were a Raiders record until Sebastian Janikowski surpassed it in 2007. Bahr scored two Super Bowl triumphs for the Raiders (1981 and 1984). In 1983, he had his greatest season as a pro, with a field goal percentage of 78 percent. In 1989, he completed his career with a good season with the San Diego Chargers, making 17 field goals and 29 PATs.
