Chicago Bulls Bio Data :

In the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Chicago Bulls are an American professional basketball team headquartered in Chicago (NBA). With six NBA championships (1991–93 and 1996–98), Michael Jordan is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and a former Bulls shooting guard.

The squad was founded in 1966 and had the greatest record for an NBA expansion team—33 wins and 48 losses—in its first season. Although they made the playoffs every year from 1969 through 1975, the Bulls only made it past the first round twice, led by Bob Love, Chet Walker, Jerry Sloan, and Norman Van Lier.

The Bulls slipped into mediocrity after the departure of the dynamic foursome, posting losing seasons throughout most of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Chicago Bulls’ rise to prominence began in 1984 when Jordan was selected third overall in the NBA draught.

In 1984–85, Jordan was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year and led the Chicago Bulls to their first of 14 straight postseason appearances. However, the Bulls fell in the first round of the playoffs in each of Jordan’s first three seasons, despite his excellent individual performance.

As a result of the addition of Scottie Pippen to the Chicago Bulls in 1987, the team’s overall quality substantially improved. When the Chicago Bulls made it to the Eastern Conference finals in 1989, they were beaten by the Detroit Pistons for the second year in a row.

After the season, the Bulls replaced Doug Collins as head coach with Phil Jackson. Coach Jackson and assistant coach Winter created the “triangle offense,” a system of attack that relied on the precise spacing of players, as well as movement without the ball, to deter opposition defenses from doubling-teaming Jordan.

To put it another way: Jordan and Pippen, along with Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright, and three-point shooting specialist John Paxson, fought their way to a seventh-game victory in the 1990 Eastern Conference finals with the help of of a new offense.

Bulls ultimately overcame their relentless enemies the next year, winning four games in a row against Detroit in order to qualify for the 1991 NBA finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. When Michael Jordan announced his retirement from basketball prior to the 1993–94 season, the Bulls faltered, falling to the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1994 playoffs.

As of March 1995, Michael Jordan was back on the Bulls’ roster, but his late arrival was not enough for them to avoid another early departure in the playoffs. In the 1995 offseason, the Bulls acquired the colorful and controversial star rebounder Dennis Rodman, and the team went on a tear, setting an NBA record the next year with 72 wins and only 10 losses (which the Golden State Warriors later broke in 2015–16). In 1997 and 1998, the Bulls beat the Jazz in the NBA playoffs to win their second championship in three years.

Following the 1997–98 season, Jackson opted to leave Chicago after directing the team to six championships in eight years. He had grown dissatisfied with the team’s management, especially general manager Jerry Krause, to who some had attributed much of the Bulls’ success.

Jordan’s second retirement, Pippen’s demand for a trade, and Rodman’s choice to join the Lakers were all prompted by his departure. Due to a sudden loss of its three greatest players in Michael Jackson and Co., the suddenly reduced Bulls went on to finish last in the Eastern Conference for the next four years in a row.

In the 2004–05 season, Chicago returned to the playoffs for the third time in a row after a lengthy rebuilding process. In both the 2010–11 and 2011–12 regular seasons, the Bulls had the best record in the NBA thanks to the play of star point guard Derrick Rose.

However, the Bulls lost in the Eastern Conference finals in the first season and were upset by the eighth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in the second season due to Rose’s injury in game one. There were two distinct injuries that kept Rose out of the whole 2013–14 season and just 10 games in 2014–15 yet the Bulls persevered and made both playoffs.

In the 2014–15 season, Rose appeared in roughly a third of the Bulls’ games, and the club made the playoffs but lost in the second round. However, the Bulls finished the 2015–16 season with a 42–40 record and broke their seven-season playoff streak.

Dwyane Wade was brought in to play alongside rising star Jimmy Butler in the next off-season after Rose was let go in free agency. It was that mix that brought the Bulls to the playoffs in 2016, leading to a first-round loss. As a result of their departures from Wade and Butler, the Bulls lost 14 games in 2017–18 and began a rebuilding process.
