Calgary Flames Bio Data :

The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta, United States of America. It is the third major professional ice hockey team to represent the city of Calgary, following the Calgary Tigers (1921–1927) and Calgary Cowboys (1975–1977). The Flames are a member of the National Hockey League (NHL) and are a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Calgary Flames are one of two NHL franchises based in Alberta, the other being the Edmonton Oilers, and they compete in the Western Conference.

Because of their close proximity, the two cities have developed a rivalry known as the “Battle of Alberta.” The team was originally known as the Atlanta Flames when it was founded in Atlanta in 1972, before relocating to Calgary in 1980. Originally known as the Olympic Saddledome, Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome was built in 1983 to house the Flames’ first three seasons in Calgary.

The Flames became the first Calgary club to compete for the Stanley Cup since the Tigers in 1923–24 when they won it in 1985–86. The Flames won their first and only Stanley Cup in 1988–89, marking the team’s inaugural season. The unexpected Flames run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004 gave rise to the Red Mile, and the team hosted and won the second Heritage Classic outdoor game in Calgary in 2011. Flames have won two Presidents’ Trophies as the NHL’s best regular-season club and seven division championships during their tenure with the organization.

Individually, Jarome Iginla is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played, goals scored, and points accrued. He is also a two-time recipient of the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy, which is awarded to the NHL’s top goal scorer. Miikka Kiprusoff holds the record for the most wins by a goaltender while wearing a Calgary Flames jersey. The Hockey Hall of Fame has inducted eleven people who have been involved with the Flames over the years.

Apart from the Flames, Calgary Sports and Entertainment, which owns them, also owns a Western Hockey League team (the Calgary Hitmen), a National Lacrosse League team (the Calgary Roughnecks), and a Canadian Football League team (the Calgary Stampeders) (the Calgary Stampeders). Since the franchise’s inception, the Flames have donated more than CA$32 million to charitable organisations in the southern Alberta region through the Flames Foundation.

The primary logo of the Calgary Flames is the “Flaming C,” which was introduced when the team relocated to Calgary in 1980 and was developed by Patricia Redditt, a Calgarian graphic designer who worked for the organisation at the time. For the first 30 years of the franchise’s existence, the home logo was red on a white backdrop, and the road logo was white on a red background; black accents were later added in 1994.

The NHL began using coloured jerseys for the home team in 2003, marking the first time in the league’s history. The home logo was changed to black on a white background, while the road logo was changed to read on a white backdrop.

The Atlanta Flames’ original “Flaming A” emblem has been revived and will be used as a patch to identify the team’s alternate captains in the future. With the launch of the new Rbk Edge jerseys in 2007, the fiery horse logo (affectionately known as “Blasty”) was discontinued. Between 1994 until 2020, a black-outlined version of the red “Flaming C” featured on the Flames’ white uniforms, replacing the original red version. During that time period, it was used as the principal logo for the organisation.

Harvey the Hound is the Flames’ official mascot and mascot of the NHL. Originally drafted in 1983, he went on to play for both the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Harvey was the NHL’s first official mascot. For an event that occurred in January 2003, when he was bothering the Edmonton Oilers bench, Harvey was notable for having his tongue pulled out by the team’s head coach, Craig MacTavish. Many other NHL team mascots arrived for the 2003 All-Star Game with their tongues hanging out as a result of the event, which garnered national attention and generated great hilarity throughout North America.
