Blink-182 Bio Data :

Guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, and drummer Scott Raynor created Blink-182 in the San Diego suburbs. Blink-182, formerly known as Blink-182, made its debut in 1993 with the self-released EP Fly Swatter.

The group signed to Grilled Cheese/Cargo after releasing Buddha in 1994 and released Cheshire Cat the following year. Blink-182 had to alter their name due to a lawsuit from another Irish band of the same name, but it didn’t stop them from becoming more well-known by touring with Pennywise and NOFX on the 1996-1997 Warped Tour and featuring in numerous skate/surf/snowboarding films.

Cargo and MCA published the third blink-182 album, Dude Ranch, in 1997. Due in part to the popularity of the infectious adolescent anthem “Dammit (Growing Up),” Dude Ranch boosted the group’s fanbase and reached platinum by the end of 1998. The band also signed with MCA, which released Enema of the State, the band’s fourth album, in the summer of 1999.

After Raynor left midway through a 1998 U.S. tour, the album’s producer, Jerry Finn (Green Day, Rancid), welcomed a new member into the trio’s ranks: Travis Barker, previously of the Aquabats, settled in on drums. Enema was an almost instant hit for the band, propelling them to the mainstream stature of toilet-humored pop-punk kings that Dude Ranch had merely hinted at. The music videos for the three songs (which had themes of streaking and boy band spoofs) were MTV successes as well, thanks to the commercially successful singles

Career

After selling over four million copies of Enema of the State, the trio returned in the fall of 2000 with The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back), a limited-edition release. The album included live performances of their radio songs, as well as the new song “Man Overboard,” which was written by them. Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, released in spring 2001, saw the band return to their SoCal punk beginnings, and it went on to become their first number one album in the United States.

With the release of his self-titled album on Geffen in 2003, he reached a certain level of maturity. Not only did the album include a song with Robert Smith of the Cure (“All of This”), but “I Miss You” also reached the top of the modern rock chart in 2005. Blink-182, as popular as ever and apparently indestructible, abruptly announced in February 2005 that they would be taking an “indefinite break,” ostensibly to spend more time with their growing families. In November of that year, the band released Greatest Hits, which was chosen with the input of fans.

The members of the band continued to work on other projects as well. Barker continued to play with the Transplants and manage his clothing brand, Famous Stars and Straps, despite having previously released an album with DeLonge as Boxcar Racer. Meet the Barkers, an MTV reality show, also featured his family. Hoppus continued with his Atticus fashion line and began creating and hosting his own podcasts, beginning with Motion City Soundtrack’s Commit This to Memory. Plus 44, a new band he formed with Barker, was formed. DeLonge also continued to work on his Macbeth lifestyle apparel line and revealed his new project, Angels and Airwaves, in the fall.

While remaining on sabbatical in 2008, the band suffered a number of personal losses, including the death of longtime producer Jerry Finn, who suffered a brain hemorrhage and subsequent heart attack before being taken off life support and died suddenly in August of that year. Barker and longtime collaborator DJ AM were both critically injured in a plane crash in September, in which both pilots and two of Barker’s acquaintances died. Barker’s injuries took 11 months to heal, and the drummer developed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his ordeal.

Following the crash, Hoppus and DeLonge reconnected with the drummer in order to help his recuperation, and blink-182 announced their reunion in 2009, hitting the road with Weezer for their reunion tour. Later that year, they went into the studio and began building the groundwork for a new album, which would be beset by delays until 2011, when Neighborhoods, their sixth studio album, was finally released. Despite mounting evidence of internal strife, blink-182 toured for the remainder of 2011, joining My Chemical Romance, Rancid, and Against Me! on the eleventh annual Honda Civic Tour.

In 2012, the members of the band reunited for a 20th-anniversary tour. Blink-182 broke ways with Interscope later that year, marking the transition with the release of their self-produced Dogs Eating Dogs EP. Blink-182 began talking about a follow-up to Neighborhoods after a spate of sold-out shows in Los Angeles in 2013, as well as headlining gigs at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2014. In January 2015, however, Hoppus and Barker were quoted in Rolling Stone as suggesting that DeLonge had left the band and that Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio might play in for him at future gigs.

DeLonge promptly commented on Facebook, stating that he had not left blink-182 and that any decision regarding the band’s future was made without his input. In the years between blink releases, the band reunited to the studio to begin recording a follow-up and focused on their other musical duties. Skiba collaborated with Alkaline Trio on a new album, while Barker added to his ever-growing list of collaborations, including work with Yungblud, Machine Gun Kelly, XXXTentacion, and others.

Meanwhile, Hoppus debuted Simple Creatures, his side project with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low, with the release of two EPs. Blink-182 returned in 2019 with their fittingly titled ninth album, Nine, according to Barker and Hoppus. Despite the album’s bright and colorful cover, Nine had serious lyrical themes that stemmed from Hoppus’ despair. The hits “Blame It on My Youth” and “Happy Days” were included on the album. The band resurfaced in 2020 with the single “Quarantine.”
