Atlanta Falcons Bio Data :

Falcons, American professional gridiron football team based in Atlanta that represents the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL) in the National Football League (NFL) (NFL). The Falcons have won two National Football Conference championships (1999 and 2017).

Despite being an expansion team, the Falcons struggled in their first three seasons, losing at least 11 of their 14 games in each of their first three seasons.  The team gradually improved throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, eventually finishing with a 9–5 record in 1973.

When Atlanta was relegated to the bottom of its division in 1974, it used the first overall pick in the 1975 NFL draught to select quarterback Steve Bartkowski, who would go on to set franchise records in virtually every major passing category throughout his career. After leading the Falcons to their first postseason appearance in 1978, Bartkowski joined forces with running back William Andrews to form a high-powered offense that propelled Atlanta to its first division title in 1980.

The Falcons’ performance declined as a result of these defeats (as well as a third playoff appearance in the strike-shortened 1982 season), and the team finished with double-digit losses in six of the seven seasons between 1984 and 1990.. In the years that followed, the Falcons’ performance continued to worsen. Although they won 10 games in 1991, the Falcons, led by flamboyant head coach Jerry Glanville and players like cornerback Deion Sanders and wide receiver Andre Rison, were once again unable to advance past the regular season.

Despite falling short against a 15–1 Minnesota Vikings team in the NFC championship game, the Falcons advanced to their first Super Bowl appearance, which they lost to the Denver Broncos. The Falcons, on the other hand, struggled to a 5–11 record in the season following their Super Bowl appearance. With quarterback Michael Vick at the helm, the Falcons enjoyed a number of successful seasons, which included the team’s first-ever home playoff loss to the storied Green Bay Packers (in 2003) and its second-ever appearance in the NFC championship game (in 2005). (a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles).

2008 saw the Falcons qualify for the playoffs by adding seven wins to their previous season’s total and finishing with an 11–5 record under first-year head coach Mike Smith and rookie quarterback Matt Ryan. The Falcons also added running back Michael Turner to their roster in 2008. Two years later, Atlanta was awarded the top postseason seed in the NFC, but the team was defeated by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs. Following the 2012 season, the Falcons were once again the top seed in the NFC playoffs, and Ryan and star tight end Tony Gonzalez (who had joined the team in 2009) both earned their first career postseason victories in a thrilling first-round matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in the team’s first postseason game.

Atlanta, on the other hand, was defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game. The Falcons finished the season with a disappointing 4–12 record the following year, hampered by injuries and poor performances. After a disappointing 2015 season, the team rebounded in 2016 with a potent Atlanta offence that scored 540 points during the season, which was the seventh-highest total in NFL history.

The Falcons won their division and breezed through the playoffs on their way to their second appearance in the Super Bowl in franchise history. It was in that game that the Falcons surrendered the largest lead in Super Bowl history (25 points) and were defeated by the New England Patriots in overtime. The following season, Atlanta made it back to the playoffs but was eliminated in the team’s second postseason contest. A preseason Super Bowl favourite entering the 2018 season, the Falcons were decimated by injuries to their defensive line, and they finished with a 7–9 record, missing out on the postseason altogether.
