Atlanta Braves Bio Data :

The Atlanta Braves is a professional baseball team based in Atlanta. It has held the distinction of being the only major league team to have participated in every season since the inception of professional baseball to this point. Throughout their history, they have won four World Series championships (1914, 1957, 1995, and 2021), as well as 18 National League championships and two American League championships (NL). As one of the nine founding members of the National Association of Professional Baseball Players, the Boston Red Stockings were founded in 1871 by Ivers Whitney Adams, who would go on to become a member of the National League.

During the team’s 82-year tenure in Boston, the Braves were known by various nicknames, including the Red Stockings, Red Caps, Rustlers, and Bees. Between 1872 and 1875, the Red Sox won four National Association pennants, ten National League pennants, and a historic World Series championship in 1914, despite the fact that the Braves were in last place as late as July 15. When the Atlanta Braves won the World Series in 1948, the motto was “Spahn and Spain and pray for rain.” The victory was credited to Warren Spahn and Johnny Spain. After failing to win the World Series in each of the three years following their triumph, the Atlanta Braves were forced to relocate from Atlanta to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they remained until 1953.

As a result of the Braves fan base being largely supplanted by that of the Boston Red Sox in the American League, the decision was made to make this change. Because of the hitting of Hank Aaron and Eddie Matthews, as well as the pitching of Spahn and Lew Burdette, the Braves quickly improved in Milwaukee County Stadium, winning two pennants (1957, 1958) and one World Series (1957). The Braves finished with winning records every season they played in Milwaukee (13 of 13 seasons). In the 1960s, attendance at their ballparks fell, and the team was forced to relocate to Atlanta in 1965.

Ted Turner purchased the Atlanta Braves in 1976 and immediately began broadcasting all of the team’s games on his cable “superstation,” WTCG (WTBS, or TBS, from 1979). Despite the fact that many felt TBS’s coverage of the Braves was unwarranted and obviously biassed, the team won the World Series. After a stretch of disappointing seasons and only two postseason appearances (1969 and 1982) during the franchise’s first 25 seasons in Atlanta, John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox brought the team back to life in the 1990s.

Braves batters David Justice and Chipper Jones were among those who helped the team finish first in the National League East in that year’s regular season. Fans of the Atlanta Braves may look back on a remarkable run that stretched more than a decade in the 1990s and early 2000s and is still remembered today. In the decade from 1991 to 2005, the Braves won 14 consecutive division titles (with one exception: the 1994 season, which was not completed due to a labor dispute), advanced to five World Series appearances, and won their third World Series triumph in 1995.

Following the sale of the Atlanta Braves by Time Warner (who had acquired the team as part of a 1996 merger with Turner Broadcasting System), TBS halted national broadcasts of Braves games in 2007. In 2010, the Braves made their first appearance in the postseason since 2004 but were eliminated in five games by the New York Yankees. With four weeks left in the season, the team surrendered an eight and a half-game lead in the Wild Card standings and missed the playoffs, marking the second-worst September collapse in Major League Baseball history.

Upon their comeback in 2012, the Braves were easily defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals in a new one-game Wild Card playoff game, which was played in Atlanta (the team that had edged out Atlanta for that position the year before). In 2013, the Braves won their division for the first time in eight years, however, they were defeated in the first round of the playoffs by the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves’ 67–95 record during this rebuilding period, which began after the team missed the playoffs in 2015, was the team’s worst record in a quarter-century. As a result, despite losing their first playoff series in four games, the Braves qualified for the postseason earlier than most baseball analysts predicted. After winning 97 games and capturing yet another division title, the Atlanta Braves young core was eliminated from the postseason for a second consecutive season.

When the Atlanta Braves returned to the National League Championship Series in 2020, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers after blowing a 3-1 series lead. Atlanta earned its retaliation by winning the National League Championship Series in six games, advancing to their first World Series trip in 22 years against the Los Angeles Dodgers the following year. Atlanta’s fourth consecutive World Series title was secured with a six-game triumph over the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the World Series.
