Alejandro González Iñárritu Bio Data :
Alejandro González Iárritu was born on August 15, 1963, in Mexico City, Mexico. He is an American filmmaker. Mr. Rodriguez is a Mexican filmmaker and producer whose films, which frequently contained interconnected stories and a nonlinear narrative helped establish him as one of the pioneers of the Mexican film renaissance in the early twenty-first century.
González Iárritu was expelled from school when he was sixteen years old. A commercial sailor’s first employment convinced him to continue his education at the Ibero-American University in Mexico City, where he graduated with honors.
During his time as a disc jockey at Mexico’s top-rated radio station, González Iárritu crafted playlists into an informal narrative arc; he credits this experience with fostering his interest in narrative. Later, he rose through the ranks to become the youngest producer for Televisa, Mexico’s main television corporation. After leaving Televisa, he created the production company Zeta Film in 1991 and went on to work in advertising as a writer and director of commercials for television.
González Iárritu spent the years 1988 to 1990 focusing on his first love: music, for which he composed the scores for six Mexican films. During this period, he became acquainted with Mexican novelist and screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga, and the two embarked on a long and fruitful collaboration that would last until his death in 2011.
When González Iárritu traveled to the United States to study filmmaking, the pair continued to correspond and develop ideas, and they transformed one of their early ideas—about three interconnected stories set in a grim but realistic Mexico City—into the screenplay for González Iárritu’s feature directorial debut, Amores Perros (Lovers of Dogs) (2000).
González Iárritu took use of his newfound fame to land high-profile positions directing two unorthodox short films, one of which was released in theatres. In 2001, he directed Powder Keg, which was one of a series of extended BMW ads done by A-list directors that aired on television. “Mexico” was the segment that González Iárritu contributed to the episodic short-film collaboration 11′09
The following year, with the release of 21 Grams (2003), González Iárritu and Arriaga made their first foray into the world of English-language cinema. As with Amores Perros, the film recounted the narrative of two seemingly unconnected people whose lives are subtly entwined through the course of the film. Following that, the two men worked together on the film Babel (2006), which included an international cast led by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. The multilingual drama, which followed in the footsteps of its predecessors, followed a mosaic framework and therefore completed a loose trilogy.
González Iárritu received an Academy Award nomination for his work on Babel, and he was nominated for the award for best director. Arriaga and Arriaga had a falling out, and he went on to direct and co-write the Spanish-language film Biutiful (2010), which is about a Barcelona criminal (Javier Bardem) who is parenting two children while dying of cancer. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), a caustic comedy starring Michael Keaton, was released in 2014 in the English-language version.
The film is about a former film star (Michael Keaton) who attempts to make a comeback by appearing on Broadway. For his work on that film, he received Academy Award nominations for best director and best screenplay, and the film was also named best picture. The film The Revenant (2015), which is based on a true incident, follows the trials and tribulations of Hugh Glass, a fur trapper (Leonardo DiCaprio) whose associates murder his son and leave him for dead after being attacked by a bear in the Canadian wilderness.
González Iárritu was nominated for a second time for directing the drama, which was also nominated for the best picture nomination. As part of his virtual-reality production Carne y arena (“Flesh and Sand”), he was nominated for an Academy Award for special achievement for his performance as a desperate migrant in the film.
